Absolutely want to scavenge the R134A rather than venting it. However, I was absolutely gobsmacked a couple of years ago when I realised that the ele tronic freeze spray we use is spray cans of R134. The ones you buy at Jaycar to this day are the same. Makes a big mockery of the whole greenhouse gas recovery thing.

At one point doing bench repairs I was using a few cans a day, every day. Hmmmm
Yikes. I reckon I dumped about 3-400 grams. It was the factory charge on a 15 year old car, it certainly lost a bit already over the years…

Not really a project but doesn't really fit anywhere else - Took the Colorado for its 48000km service and again question the shudder on take off and gear change - Finally going to replace the Torque convertor - I assume they let them go a certain time frame so they limit the amount of warranty replacements as they all have to be replaced in this series of Colorado - Not sure if they use a different model or put the same old same old in

Warranty replacements used to be the worst part of the job - mainly for the apprentices, finding rattles, replacing steering wheel airbags, motors or even the Torque Converters. Dealership doesn't really make any money off them and they take up a hoist for a few days depending on the job which is money lost. We used to have one bay dedicated to warranty, as some parts needed to be sent ordered while the car was in the shop and then we could pull motor etc over a few days/ the learning was the good aspect as its not time sensitive.

Yep. Is so want to be wrong about that. No idea how its legal to keep selling it. The cans have 250g in them. Most car aircon R134A systems have a charge of between 500 and 750g. People absolutely loose their shit when someone vents their car aircon but I bet most people that use these cans have no idea what's in them. Madness.

Poor bloody Megane… Loaded it up with a massive roof pod and the cage trailer stacked up and drove to Melbourne. Massive southerly wind in Victoria coming into Melbourne and the poor thing was struggling to hold 100 and sucking down 15/100. Massive parachute on the roof and behind it!

Buy an old NA diesel car mate, problem solved. Fuel economy stays almost the same regardless of load and any notion of travelling at speeds above 90kph is just a wet dream unless going down a steep hill and you coast in neutral.

I first heard that expression in some old trucking song my dad used to listen to. Had no idea what it meant until my dad did it to take a run up at the next big hill. As a kid it was a bit scary to feel the speed really pick up and the engine just idling away. Dad just laughed and said there's nothing to worry about, just using the Georgia overdrive. Good fun when empty, not recommended when heavy.

Truckers still try it occasionally. Not a good idea on automated-gearboxes. They typically select a low gear when you put them back in drive. I’ve seen a few windowed engine blocks from when drivers have forgotten that. Would love to see an RPM log!
