The guy who posts on all the MTB pages as THE BIKE BROKER has flogged off his own bike and forgot to disclose the damage, then blocked the bloke who bought it.
The bloke who bought it has now posted on a shit load of MTB pages, warning about Rob Williams :p

Been following this a little bit. Loved the bit about the $500 service on own bike. Even I wouldn't charge myself that much!

Did you see the bit where he didn’t actually get it serviced, it was the previous owner who had it done, then sold to the broker guy who rode it for a while then on sold it.
The derailleur part is definitely iffy, but the cable rub…. Not so sure that’s not to be expected on a second hand carbon bike. It was also in the pictures, as was the derailleur.
A bit more buyer research was needed I think.

I did read through the whole thing. Sounded like dodgy bike sales guy meets under researched purchaser heading for nasty divorce.

I do feel for these people, as I have had friends buy bikes with no complaints or older frames, not from this guy. But that could certainly deter people from getting more into the MTB scene which is always a bummer considering our health system is basically crumbling.

Presenting second hand bikes on social media with SFA pictures and few words is instantly a red flag.

Now, who is the piss funny burner “Cheeki Chops” with this comment on the discussion? Will be be explaining to thenext generation what being a chops is all about?

The Hitler chops parody for all those wanting to relive the chops fiasco of 2015

Yup, I agree. If the guy was a new to mtb purchaser (which I don't think he is, looks like he's had plenty of high end bikes) you'd think buying from a bike broker would add a solid degree of confidence.

I've only had one brief encounter with him when I asked a few questions about a bike he was selling a few years back, something set off my spideysenses and I got cold feet and said Thanks but I'm no longer interested, the messages following to try to lure/pressure me back to the table were very...assertive. I just blocked him and moved on.

Depending on how the cable has rubbed through the carbon, it could later propagate a crack from it. He should have offered the guy a refund or gave him some money back, something he should have really disclosed when selling a bike of that price.

Not that I would pay covid prices + broker tax but... this joker has been freely selling bikes as Mr Bike Broker Australia on multiple pages.

If I felt like paying over the tote for a bike, I would have though he would be a reputable person to buy from.

I've never given it a thought but obviously he's a dodgy chunt and hasn't really been called out before or banned from posting.

Looks like both posts I saw have been taken down. So maybe they came to some agreement. Can’t see the brokers business going well from here on out.

So this guys buys and sells used items, claiming to be a dealer/broker of Sai used items? Doesn't that require some part of licence? Not because bikes, but because second hand selling...

I don’t believe anyone on FB marketplace holds a licence to sell used items.

AFAIK in the broker side of things he handles the transaction and small talk between parties for some kind of nominal fee.

However in this instance it was his personal bike and he did express this detail in the listing, so technically not a business transaction.

Still some shady details though, however caveat emptor… it’s a second hand carbon bike, likely to have some rub in locations. From other Forbidden owners posting in the FB thread, it seems to be a common rub spot and most did a simple fix to prevent it.

The derailleur could be easily overlooked. Every other component on the bike is labeled XT or Deore XT, brakes, cockpit, cranks etc.

Nothing beats seeing a bike in person or having someone reputable inspect first.

Personal items, such as I sell you my bike or fishing rod, don't have any regulation. But I have a hazy memory that to sell used items in a commercial sense (such as being a broker of used bikes or mattresses) has some form of regulation. I'd be sure even using the word broker has some specific definitions if I dug hard enough.

And I'm sure that everything he sells could be argued to be his personal item in the right circumstances.

Think you're thinking of something along these lines:
