I remember a few horror stories on OcAU about leaks. :) Was the Celeron the one that you "cut" (or joined?) the traces on the CPU using a pencil?

Anyone remember that SMP-capable mobo that was super-cheap? I just did a quick search for it, but turned up the old P3 "Slot1" -- that takes me back.
From memory there was the earlier batch of 300A where it was literally just jumper the multiplier or bus speed on the mobo, and wham it goes to 450 with a modest increase to cooling. It was the later batches where some physical mods had to be made to the cpu board, as intel's sale of the faster processors was being cannibalised by the 'povo spec' celeron lol

love finding SOME glitches.
A few years back playing Assassins Creed Syndicate, had pretty much 3/4 completed the game and then bang, glitch. Lost everything, all save points. Fkn pissed me off for a bit. But ultimately it was an enjoyable game so once I got over my initial crusty-ness I didn't mind re-playing it all

Yes, I vaguely remember that you cut a track to force it overclock or something like that. My mobo did that part for you.

Ahh yeah, I have vague memories of photos of the CPU board with "cut trace here" or similar.

My friend used to be deep into the overclocking scene. I'd sometimes get his old gear, and I'd always have to ask him how to undo everything he'd done :) Luckily, as time went on it was just "reset the BIOS to factory".

That's devastating lol.

wifey had something similar happen on dragon age. She went catatonic for a few days. It took her a while to reposition herself along the lines of " its just a game"

I had a QX6800? back in the day, running Cathers jet impingement “Storm” water block, that I had stable at 4.1ish ghz on something silly like 1.59volts. Lasted a few years as my HTPC.

Still have all the old water cooking parts in my desktop, including my water cooled Enhanced 500w psu.

Fuck I'm a filthy casual. I've got an awesome gaming pc, Xbox Series X, and Gamepass. Yet all I want to play is Fallout 4. So hopeless.

Is anyone playing any good multiplayer shooters? Before kids I played Battlefield 4 and The Division. Fortnite, Overwatch, PUBG, Destiny have totally passed me by. Shooting some people in the head would probably be good for my mental health.

Shouting bandits off cliffs is more my thing. Haven't got the Wabbajack yet, the guy in Whiterun crapping on 24/7 about how awesome Talos is, will be my first "customer" ;)

I've been playing overwatch since beta. Blizzard make good games. Overwatch 2 is coming out in October too.

Is it worth trying to learn? For context, I come from a Counterstrike and Battlefield background rather than Quake and Team fortress.

I think it is, but I'm biased.

Given the game has been going for so long and how large the hero roster is , the learning curve around how to navigate all the various strategies and hero counters would be huge for someone new, but ultimately i think the gameplay is rewarding. You get toxicity like in any online competitive game, but you can mute people in both voice and chat. But being a game based on teamwork, you may miss important calls, SO I've just learned to ignore the toxic players while still communicating.

The heroes are all unique, there's the holy trinity of roles (Tanks, dps and healer/support) and the mix of high skill level vs low skill characters is good. I think the challenge for most people is sticking with it long enough to find what they like most. I can play all roles proficiently but to varying degrees depending on hero.

If you do give it a go, I'd highly recommend giving it time and watching some videos on the basics of the characters. While the concepts of capping points, or escorting objectives are not going to be new to you, the way in which the game is played is pretty unique. There's a lot going on and you have to have a bit of an idea of what all the characters can do to be able to get in the swing.

I think the match making is good and while you progress an account through to level 25 (which is the threshold before you can enter ranked games), you'll be able able to play like a complete noob without too much friction from other players. You could easily get the core gameplay and experience all the maps and characters several times in this time. The unranked games are generally well matched too, so you'll be playing with other noobs while you all figure it out. Before you know it, you're getting the adrenaline rushes and dopamine hits competitive games are good for.

The world, characters, interactions and lore is well developed if thats your thing. The cartooney nature of it puts some people off, but the core gameplay is not childs play - its a well throughout team based brawler/shooter with a huge variety of possibilities. Its what keeps me going back.

Used to play PUBG all the time but have not touched it in ages so cannot comment on how it is now that the base game is free. Played Division 1 and 2 which were both good games and the settings were amazing but just didn't have the longevity for me.

I am a sucker for Destiny having played on xbox originally and then moved to PC with Destiny 2. Despite some wobbles every now and then I have yet to find a FPS that offers the same feeling from both a movement and gunplay perspective. Current seasons PVP is a bit of a mess due to some balancing issues but I would expect that to be toned down in the next major patch sometime in the next 4-6 weeks. It is one of those games that I just keep going back to despite having plenty of other things to play instead.

The one thing with Destiny is that you really need to play the PVE content to get the most out of PVP as a lot of the good gear is found when doing the PVE activities. Not that this is a bad thing but if you are just looking for a multiplayer focused game where your loadouts are set etc. then this is not it as Destiny is a looter shooter.

I've been playing Destiny 2 again recently. I haven't deleted it either and kept it around for quite some time. Overall it is quite good but I do get bored with the grind and same enemy behaviour rehashed again. Playing the Witch Queen content now but haven't invested in the paid content or season passes since there are other things I am hopelessly behind that I'd like to play. I haven't done much PVP and prefer just to explore and do the quests and the public events and am too badly organised to do regular clan events. Pry my Sunshot away from my cold dead hands :D

I also have been playing the free Warframe for some time too which is in the same sci fi shooter mold as Destiny. If you like Destiny then it might row your boat too. Warframe keeps improving as time rolls on.

Also have kept Battlefront 2 with the co-op campaigns where you have a team of 4 against hordes of bots. I just find it a tonne of fun for a quick 15 minute or so match. Still seems to have an active player base even now.

The story content has improved considerably since D2 first launched and you can tell they have a proper over arching story line now whereas in the early days it was so disconnected from season to season.

I am a bit the same in that my group will heavily play for the short period at the beginning of each expansion/season and then people drop off to the point where I just fire it up every now and then and stuff about for a bit and then log off. Shame as some of the best content is the raids, no other game has the same group pve experience in my opinion.

I dabbled a bit into Warframe a while back and just couldn't get into it in the same way.

There wasn't any sort of story early on from memory. They have improved that thing a lot and lumped on whole bunch of lore that I don't think I will ever read :D The D2 initial release was pretty rough n' ready.

I'm much the same. If I leave D2 alone for a while then it is more fun to pick it up again later. I should give the raids a go. The public events have usually been fun. I blame myself for not hanging around long enough to get into clans longer term to make the most of it.

It isn't for everyone but that Rhino warfame I built sure has made it more fun. It also suffers from repetitive bad guys similar to Destiny.

There is so much to play and not enough time to do it. I get commitment issues devoting time and grinding way on the same thing.

Raids are amazing, plenty of good people out there who will sherpa you through if you care to look in the various LFG groups etc. Highly recommend doing them at least once.

Yep hear you there. I am currently working my way through Horizon Forbidden West at the moment and have really enjoyed the change of pace just doing all the side quests and exploring etc. not rushing just having fun.

Would like to have a look at that one. I picked up Horizon Zero Dawn earlier and it is in 'to do' queue. Take your time and enjoy it.

Ah that's the otherthing I forgot to mention on overwatch - no gear grinds or upgrades during the game. You're only as good as your skills.

My skills are rusty and shit. I won a CS comp 20 years ago and it's been downhill ever since.
