Not sure on the code - 1.6 turbo, but a lower output 110kw tune.

Reading up on it a bit and it sure does have its issues… Pita to get to the oil filter, had to pull out a lot of induction pipework. It’s got a nasty vacuum pump oil leak too - $5 o ring, but a pain to get at.
Looks though like it’s another probably not completely terrible engine undone by stupid long service intervals the Europeans seem to love. Like the trans if you get one new and service it “properly” it would be mostly ok - but 20K kms between oil changes is a rubbish idea….
Wasn't that the Brazillian made one that was shared like an unwelcome cold sore?

The engine? Dunno, this is a France made model of Peugeot though.

Nice car though, really nice interior especially on these. Just don’t get one too much used, or at least get a later model one with the 6 speed Aisen transmission!

Not without its own faults, but does resist neglect and abuse better!! The AL4/DPO used in a bazillion frogmobiles was a derivative of a VW design made by Seimans. A pretty conventional 4 speed unit, but very old school now - was a bit old school already in the mid 2000s when they were in most production truth be told... But they a decent enough unit so long as you ignore the "sealed for life" caper.

Still in production now in China in a Chery I think - does mean that overhaul kits are dirt cheap on aliexpress!!

Good advice!
If you're not inclined to turn your own spanners (or at least dont have a frog friendly mechanically inclined friend on hand...) I tend to agree. I never recommend them to non car people - in France/Europe where most mechanics know what theyre looking at sure, but not in Australia.

So I drove the XR6 and the heater started working sort of as it was hot on one side and warmish on the other which tells me the HIM I changed is dodgy so I will be putting the old one back in, as it may have been the thermostat or really bad airlock.

If it was an airlock I think I have bled it out well and truly, as after my hour commute back to work, when I stepped out of the car I had some coolant on the ground and then a little bit more. When I popped the bonnet I found the over flow tank cap was missing:rolleyes: I must’ve been distracted by something and didn’t put it back on, luckily it was just behind the strut tower. This probably should be in COTFW but I guess the system is bled and if the heater doesn’t work on the way home it might be the overflow cap failing either way FIIK.

Most Reno's at that age are thrown away in Europe, the labour to fix things is so high in comparison to general wages.

In the next instalment of why I hate BMWs and their douche drivers.

I went to Eastern Creek last night to give the GTR a run with its new Stage 4 gearbox from Just Jap and the refreshed Bilsteins from DNA Motorsport. Managed to just squeeze into the 1.47s on the GP circuit which was pleasing. Especially considering the Nankang AR-1s were 80% worn.

Less pleasing was the M4 Comp with the big wing, graphics, and fancy angled M Performance Silencer and the steaming turd behind the wheel with more car than talent.

On the out lap I overtake said M4 and slot in behind a scary quick Supra (also plastered in graphics). I stay within reach of the Supra on lap 2 but the Supra starts to walk away from me on the straights which is impressive given that I have 600hp and a Cd of 0.26. The M4 slots in behind me and keeps in touch on the corners but loses me and the Supra on the straight.

Lap 3 the M4 catches up to me under brakes coming into T2, and I drag him up and over the hill into T4. He starts riding my ass and flashing his lights through T5, so I let him through on the short straight into T6 assuming he's friends with the Supra. I slot in behind and start following over the hill and draft him through T14 and easily match his braking into T15. He then sees red and overcooks the exit of T15, runs wide drops the rear left onto the dirt and almost spins it. Luckily all I caught was the cloud of dust, but if he had spun, he was into the tyre wall for sure, and I might of caught a wheel or a wing.

Back in the pits, the turd comes around in his nomex suit with M branding to check out the GTR that gave him the scare. Doesn't ask if the car is ok after his dirt spray, just checks out the engine bay. Yeah keep walking douchebag.

The guy with the brand new Lotus Emira was lovely, ditto the GT3 RS MR driver, it just always seems to be the BMW drivers.

My wife was also cut off by a BMW in Neutral Bay tonight just to hammer home the stereotype.

Having ridden a few road cycling races with Waratahs Masters on that same track configuration - I really really find T15/T15a/T4b to be a farking hard corner to master. Off camber, downhill, and off a pretty good run down from T14. And I don't corner well to the right.

Oh well, its one to work toward.

I always wanted one of those when I was in my JDM phase, Ended up with a Forester STI though.
I think the Skyline club/forums are the only ones that have stuck around with a decent management setup (SAU)

@Haakon was thinking about what you said about euros the other day when I was doing spark plugs and a few other bits on an MR20 engine, as soon as I saw Renault stamped on the throttle body I knew it was going to be 'fun'. Why did we buy the only Xtrail with that motor, of all the motors.

The Renault-Nissan MR engine family consists of straight-four 16-valve all-aluminium and water cooled automobile engines with variable valve timing co-developed by Renault and Nissan. Renault calls it the M engine. Other noteworthy features of this engine family include acoustically equal runner lengths and a tumble control valve for the intake manifold, a "silent" timing chain, mirror finished crankshaft and camshaft journals, and offset cylinder placement in an attempt for increased efficiency.

The MR engine family features 'under stress' manufacture, meaning while the block is being bored, a torque plate puts the block under stress. The block becomes temporarily distorted until the head is torqued onto it, at which point the block is pulled into the correct shape.

let you google that for me

Well if you want one, get in now. The S1s have already crossed the 25 year mark and are starting to go up and the S2s will soon.

Mine is in surprisingly good condition for 178k km but there is a scratch on cylinder 5. I somehow lucked out and picked up the last N1 block in the country, so will build a Tomei 2.8 stroker around that.

I actually drove past a 2007 Forester STI on Victoria Rd that is for sale yesterday. They are another modern classic that I predict will join the likes of the 22B, P1 and RB5 as highly collectible.
