I have seen the vending machines and I have seen men of a range of ages purchase from them. Not my cup of green tea but then it floats some boats. In general the vending machines in Japan keep the populace running. Hot? Grab a cold drink, cold? Grab a hot drink, hungry, grab some noodles. Etc. Not sure where the undies fit in to that but they are there and are utilised.
