I'm pretty sure it's an old 308. Couldn't be bothered scratching through the ash for the vin plate.

I know what it is ;) 307 actually. It’s likely a diesel anyway so no loss.

Woo - my marketplace rescue Megane sailed through its roadworthy first time. He probably could have been a dick about a 1cm hairline crack in one tail light lens or a marginal stone chip on the screen, but he wasnt so that was nice.

Now to get some plates on it, advertise it and see what I can get for it.

Surely the beret clad, avant garde Hobartians would be all over it?
Quite possibly - way more euro cars down here than you'd expect, including a surprisingly strong Alfa presence (a lot of them red ;) ).

But more importantly used cars in general are in reasonable demand given the more limited choice and the hassle involved in sourcing one from the mainland. We'll see. I'll start wildly optimistic and see how it goes :)

I've got a noise with the Landcruiser that's got me stumped. It's a 1994 80 series with a 1fz engine with about 400k on it.

It has this loud whirring noise and rises and falls with the revs. My first thought was belts / pulleys or power steering, but it still does it with all belts removed and the PS pump unbolted from the engine. Next I tried the distributor as I thought the noise was coming from that area - pulled it out and replaced, but the noise was still there. I did the valve cover gasket at the same time as the distributor and everything looked OK under there too.

My only other thought is it may be related to the exhaust, as it did pop up within a month of me replacing an exhaust gasket. But it doesn't sound like other exhaust leaks I have heard.

Any other ideas from the brains trust? I'm keen to sell the car but want to fix this first and it's got me fucked.

Here's a video which shows the sound.

Fan, your viscous fan may need more viscous. Easy job, but the viscousness, remove fan, split fan body, pour in viscousness, reverse the other stuff.

All belts removed including water pump? Then timing belt tensioner. Maybe.

Think I found one - my datto loving mate in Canberra has a BMW driving friend who recommended Advanced Tech auto in Phillip. Google maps showed two 3.0 CSi parked out the front, so that suggests they're legit :)
They did my E30 for years, totally legit. Northside Euros are also legit, but specialise more in VWAG.
