We spent and extra day at the PIL house helping out ( cause we is a good pig) last night it pissed down, and as we left this morning it was still raining.
Due to Japan's over use of steel plates in the road and a lack of grip, the first 30km was slow.... We then climbed out of Uji to lake Biwa... Last time we did it was on a mamachari with flat tyres and no brakes.... Size according to Strava, we got a pb climbing... However the whole time the pig was.. hold back this gets worse... Then we crested the top and......
Flying along the edge of Lake Biwa we met so many Taiwanese cyclists.... And a lovely indian lady from Bangalore who lived in a city near lake Biwa and was doing a camping lap..... I can suggest Lake Biwa as an easy cycling trip for anyone visiting Japan. It has so many facilities. Oh, there was a big concert there today, probably a Japanese boy band by the crowd.
We did have quite a moment, riding along we saw a person do a boat ski jump thingy.... Not looking at the road ahead, we clipped a bollard lost a pannier and almost crashed.....we did stop to check it out, but it looks like we saw the last jump. A lot of wake boarding there too...
Generally uneventful ( did you just type the above, you fat shite) until we got our first puncture for the trip.... A few minutes later we were on our way, with all the airs in our rear tyre.
At the 100km mark, a quick check of google maps showed we were within reach of another container hotel ( so good, so very good) so we slogged another 30 km to get a good night's sleep. We did want to camp, but it's raining again, and the difference in price between a contain and a camp site is just not worth it in the rain.
Currently stuffing calories into the pigs gob, and will hit the hey early to try and get a jump on tomorrow
