Daylight savings is backwards. It means the majority of workers leave work at sunset or in the dark during winter, but it's still daylight until 9pm in summer (and dusk until around 10pm). I don't have kids but I imagine it's not easy getting them to go to bed when it's still 35 degrees and daylight outside.
I for one would love an hour's extra light in the winter evenings, and I'm sure all the people that start work in the small hours of the morning would appreciate it getting darker an hour "earlier" in the summertime. But that would effect the turnovers of pubs, clubs and casinos, so it's probably not going to happen...
