Well I bit the bullet and ordered a set. 38mm wide, ud weave and matte finish, novatec hubs. Now I play the waiting game... The waiting game sucks already.

Does anyone check their spoke tension or make sure their wheel sets are true after buying these or any machine/prebuilt wheels
I think the most useful expensive tool I've ever bought is my park tool tensiometer. It's amazing how a quick pluck tells you they are all good, but when you check with the meter, one spoke can be way under tensioned, but feels ok because it crosses another tight spoke.

I've had my set of LB wheels [UD weave, matt finish, Pillar spokes with Hope pro 2 hubs, I can't recall what width] on my Norco Sight now for 16 months.
While I did not check spoke tension when I got them they have been ridden at least 3 times a week, every week since new.
Funnily enough I actually checked them over pretty thoroughly a day or two ago. Absolutely dead straight, no sign what so ever of any loose spokes, hubs still spin forever and are dead silent and smooth as butter. I essentially forgot about them for 16 months which has to be a good thing.

While I am 51 and not as "adventurous" as I once was, I still prefer AM type riding and don't just plod along. Almost all my riding is either Smithfield or Atherton.

These wheels have been great. Stiff, light, strong, well laced, work flawlessly tubeless - Highly recommended

+1............

I'd be concerned if my Hope Pro 2's were dead silent just sayin......
Sigh.... must we explain everything to all people, but I take your point.
I was referring to the quality of the bearings not the free hub, which still sounds like a swarm of angry hornets.

Thanks for all the suggestions thus far.

More searching and I found this:

using this tape:

http://www.3m.com/intl/nz/english/scotchtoughtape/products_transparent.html

I'm thinking use this one though:

http://www.3m.com/intl/nz/english/scotchtoughtape/products_heavyduty.html
http://www.m2motorsportinc.com/custom-wheels/wheels-brand/esm-wheels.html

Which has better weatherability and adhesive strength.

It can be bought here:

http://www.bunnings.com.au/3m-scotch-48mm-x-27-4m-all-weather-tough-duct-tape_p1661183

http://www.m2motorsportinc.com/custom-wheels/wheels-brand/mrr-wheels.htmlEasy to buy, stretch/apply, and tear/cut to width. Water resistant. Feedback on that first page gives good long term results. Sounds like the perfect tape? I'll prob give it a shot on weekend and report back.

EDIT: forget the allweather tape I just realised it is cloth backing which would probably soak up the sealant. Will try the transparent stuff per the first website.
:caked:WOW~ Thank you for useful info!

not really a hijack, but has anyone ever dealt with icanbikes?

they have some stupidly cheap wheels

http://www.icanbikes.com/html/Round/Fat bike wheelset/313.html

http://www.icancycling.com

I purchased some road bike wheels from them recently and was thoroughly impressed with their customer service and the build quality of the wheels. Also, they arrived at my doorstep from China in 4 days.

I also own some 35mm 650b LB wheels which have been thrashed for several months and have held up flawlessly. I know it's comparing road bike wheels to MTB wheels, but the quality of the iCan wheels appears to be equivalent to that of LB. I was going to purchase the same spec road wheels off LB, but they were considerably more expensive.

The iCan wheels come with a 2 year warranty as well.

My wheels are on their way! 1 month and 1 day from time of ordering to dispatch, overall 23 business days. a bit more than the quoted 10-15, but there was some stuff going on in china at the time so i can forgive it.

Nice
I like the bold LB graphics
I have bright green LB graphics on my set, I see no point is hiding where they come from, just be prepared for some comments on the trail like "LB, don't those things break" or "Chinese carbon?, do you really trust those?"
Get your answers lined up : )
A standard answer for me (usually directed at Envy wheel owners) is "I can buy 3 1/2 sets of LB for what you paid for your Envys so i guess I can afford to have a few sets break before I drop in to the red"

I just bought some rims for my Wheel build.
Got some 38mm 29er AM's with matte black decals in matte 3k, 36h drilling. Lacing then to some Hope Pro 2's 40t, getting them built up locally.
Some number crunching has them at about 1054g rear and 950g front, but they should be ultra stiff, which is more the intent.

Will post pics when they arrive.

ENVE owners - have you tried to true them yet? How did that go?

Roval owners - same factory mate, just without the Roval stickers and specialized markup.

Reynolds owners - what, is Reynolds Chinese carbon mixed with unicorn shit before they get the Reynolds sticker?

Ubiquitous response - nearly all carbon rims are Chinese now, except enves which are a major pita to work with
