Yeah, they are impressive.

Before my old man retired, he was a naval officer (1st mate) on tankers.

I went on many a tour through the engine rooms on bulk carriers.

You know they have to throw the engines in reverse about 12 nautical miles before their intended port? Thats how long it takes to stop a decent size tanker.

Pfft, some lamborghinis have V 12s. They'd beat that tanker from the lights any day.
lol, but a lambo revs to 9000rpm. this thing doesnt even do 100!

lambos are cool, but nothing says snap like an engine the size of a double storey house

I'd say a gallon to a mile. What do you think?

Damn impressive engine though!
Ahh drinks a bit more than that! Quote from the site:
the 14 cylinder engine for example with a displacement of 25,480 Litres ( 1.56 million cubic inches ) burns up 1,660 gallons of crude oil every hour,

well torque is HP x 5252/RPM

so at full song; 90000 x 5252 / 100 = 4726800 lb-ft

thats some stump pullin' power.

crazy

but on another note, anyone read down the page a bit and see the smallest working engine in the world? miniature rotary ftw.

That would need a flamethrower for each cylinder to ignite the fuel hahah! Fair size....

i think you'd probably find it desn't even have a sparkplug, probably some sort head heaing device (glow plug) and monster compression.

Hahahaha, sparkplugs on an engine like that would be funny as, imagine replacing the things :p. An engine that size would use glowplugs.
