So after having my Pitch Pro for about 6 or so weeks, my confidence levels are starting to grow quite rapidly. Tried a a few new tracks in the last couple of weeks, with this morning being one of the ones I have enjoyed the most so far. For those who know SA, it's called Devil's Gully. It's more of a downhill hill track, but still very rideable on an AM bike.

It's a short track, fairly steep in some parts, and has a good few jumps, and two decent rock drop off's near the end of the ride.

My mate and I me a couple of blokes last week, and we saw them again this week, so they took us to the top, gave us a quick run down, and then off we went. Having never ridden it, i took only a couple of the jumps, and bypassed the drop offs. After a quick chat however, I head back up the track 50 or so metres, and did the 2nd drop-off.

The outcome....no worries at all!!! I was stoked, as were the other guys for me.

Probably not that exciting for most on here, but I am over the moon it worked straight up.

ok, been shooting some footage with my Drift POV cam
it saves the files as .mov/quicktime files

i think i'd like to convert them to something that i can use in Microsoft Movie Maker

what FREE converters are out there? and what is the best file to convert them too?

i've downloaded a trial editor for the .MOV files, works ok but i think i'd like to use the big M's product

and finally, what's the best/easiest/cheapest host site for videos?

Win AVI has always worked well for me, this is available as a trial or purchase. I think you can use photobucket for videos, not sure how easy it is but at least it doesnt swamp you with unsolicited adds and casino games when you click on the link.

longer ridge ride, old trails, new trails, new old trails and busted bike bits...

So, after close to a month off the bike I decided it was time to climb the ridgeline behind Eildon city again, this time I headed out on the extended version - heading straight on at the high point above Eildon city instead of taking the left down to town.. man, I'd forgotten how good the next little bit of trail is!! so much fun I went all the way to where it points straight down to the back of taylor's bay/eildon boat club, climbed back up, and took another branch descent nearly down to right arm road, then reversed the whole thing back to the DH track, then found another 4wd trail down to karalikka [?] heights rd. yeeeeow yippee yip!! Some old stuff, some new stuff, some new old stuff, loads of puffing my unfit self on foot up hills I could climb a month ago!

Back at easts lookout, I discovered three things: First, a tantalising-yet-unused-for-ages trail leaving the lookout down a funky looking ridgeline. Second, a nastily bent cog in my cassette... mystfied! and finally, a bent seatpost when I tried to drop it a few inches to 'exploratory descent' mode. Grrr!

Anyway, the seat managed to go down just far enough and my final leg was a pretty funky descent atop the road cutting above the eildon boat club road.. an obviously cut-but-forgotten route, a few tea trees in the face but meh, the clear sections made it worthwhile...

A fun way to take on the one sunny morning we've had in two weeks. ahhhh..

Point Glorious, Sunshine Coast, QLD

Fantastic local ride for me is the trip up to Point Glorious, first a slight detour into Yandina to get a snack for when I make it to the top. This was my first proper ride (i.e. not the 9km round trip into town on the road) with clipless pedals, didn't stack :). My phone GPS says it was a 33km trip, took me a bit under 4 hours including a decent rest at the top and repairing a pinch flat on the way down. Probably wasn't the fastest to climb up there but I'm not the fittest, carry a bit a gear; and my bike is around 16kg. I only got my bike 3 weeks ago. It's a 2009 Iron Horse 6point4 and haven't done much in terms of customisation yet (defs gotta change that 2.5" dual ply minion on the front).

Definitely a bit of a slog up there, but the ride down is insanely fun! It's 10 minutes tops back down a fire trail with lots of smaller wash outs, rocks, bumps in the road (i.e. small jumps). But most important, pretty much no pedalling: just a little bit at the start then around 2km all downhill! As a fire trail there is plenty of room to move around and gives you a little room for error, but there are many sections with lots of rocks big enough to ride around. It's not super difficult/technical, it's more higher speed (I think) and is great a for a beginner like myself. 10 minutes is an estimate, hard to gauge with that stop to repair that nasty pinch flat after hitting a broken concrete pipe that I only saw at the last seconds (running higher pressure now). Plus I was on my own and never ridden down that way before, so I was taking it easy too. Will definitely being doing that ride again soon!

Photos aren't bad for a phone camera :)
Happy for some company next time!

Mt Sugarloaf, NSW explore

Hey, did some exploring up Mt Sugarloaf near Newcastle today. It's my second ride around sugarloaf. My first was with a mate's friends riding from the top down. I had no idea where I was and forgot the iPhone so couldn't gps track it. I was glad to head up there today and get more acquainted with area.

It's been raining so much here but have had a few days of sun so the trails were good in places but still mostly muddy hell.

Bike: Jamis Parker (Porker) II 2009 - 16kegs of easy hill climbing awesomeness.

Rode in off killingworth Rd into the old Killingworth mtb trails. Then up some random firetrails and eventually found some track from the previous time up there. It was too muddy and there were trees across the trail so gave up that route and tried to ride up the road. That turned into an impassable, overgrown, stupidly steep rut so gave up again and headed down.

Alps in the northern Summer

Just back from a few weeks in Europe, riding. A few days riding surprisingly good trails around Zurich. https://picasaweb.google.com/dmorgs/DaveJooEuro2011#5621141475747408818 as a bit of a warm up, then down to Morzine to do the Passé Porte du Soleil event then another week riding about there, Les Gets, Champery, Morgins etc etc. Brilliant riding of every description. https://picasaweb.google.com/dmorgs/DaveJooEuro2011#5624474215497901442

Then a brief call into Aosa/Pila. The xc stuff was a bit dud dish, but the park is awesome riding, and there is an awesome 11km DH to the bottom of the valley. Not a groomed DH course, but more natural terrain.
Then over to Livigno for a week of guided rides and a week by ourselves.

The trails there are maily all above about 1800m, thebhighest pass we crossed was 3007 metros and thebhighest start point 3011m.
Awesome arising to be had there. Both on Nomads, but they've morphed into different beasts.
Happy bikes https://picasaweb.google.com/dmorgs/DaveJooEuro2011#5628557885276996946
