Went for a ride up to Brimbank Park along the freeway bikepath. Dropped straight down under the EJ Whitten bridge, rode a little of the creak path until I saw all the people (all appropriately sized groups, just a lot of groups), turned around rode back up to the bridge and came home.
I sympathised with @Cardy George - belting along the bikepath at tempo was no drama, even into the headwind on the way back. But 32(chainring)-34(cassette) gearing and no elevation practice dealt a good reality check!
Still had fun, and despite the wind (which was at least consistent rather than gusty) kept a good pace up.
Oh, and yep - it's defintely Magpie season. I got lots of general alert warning swoops, shoulder bounced, beak clacks (past the ear, not aiming to amputate luckily), and the classic helmet trampolining. The mad buggers make me laugh - they're so reluctant to fly the rest of the year, so as soon as you see them fly up you know what's coming!
