Stumpytail remember in my younger days I dug a mine shaft for shits and gig s took me two days to get down 15ft , roped a mate in because I only had a 20ltr bucket and a tie down strap tied to a tree to get in and out . He was there too remove the bucket and lower it back down anyway two buckets in he yodels snake and runs off leaving me down the hole , took a lot of yelling to get him back to lower the strap only to find that it was one cheeky buggars , nervous ten mins in a deep hole haha
This was last week's cheeky bugger. Finding the coolth in my power trench.

What a cutie! (the lizard, not you :p ) Very common in the drier areas.

A few years ago I was driving back to Melbourne from Murray Bridge via a deliberately indirect route, and there were heaps of these guys on or near the roads. At one point between Swan Reach & Loxton there was one lounging in the middle of the opposite lane to the one I was in, and in the distance a Very Large Truck was approaching, so I hit the anchors & pulled off the road & jumped out to shepherd or carry if necessary the Stumpy to safety. My approach had the desired effect, and it scuttled away to the side of the road. As the truck passed the liz turned around and did its menacing display before retreating to the scrub. One intact lizard and I was happy to see it stay that way. :D
We drove that area last week and had to drive around at least half a dozen Bearded Dragons and a few Blue Tongues making their way across the road.

Had a new guy from Argentina start at work and we came across an unfortunate road victim. I'm not intimately familiar with them but it was either a stumpy or a Blue Tongue. Anyway I stop and pick up the unfortunate one and show him to New Mate. After getting over his disgust at the sight of all the scales, his first question was "will it kill me" :D

Shinglebacks are everywhere along the Bremer River in SA, although their colouring is slightly different (black with yellow stripes along their flanks). Live up to their sleepy lizard name by remaining completely motionless until you're a few cms away from them then exploding in an angry hissing strop which scared the shit out of me multiple times when younger because I thought they were snakes. Here's one from the last time I was over there having a dip.

Did he pick it up? If yes then "Oh god! What are you doing? They have venom-tipped scales!"

I ran over the first snake I'd seen for the season. Fortunately for me (not the snake) I didn't see it until it was pointed out by the ride behind me after I'd ridden over it.

Snakes seem way more plentiful than i remember for years past. Does the wet and generally bush fire free past few seasons contribute to that?

I’m oddly jumpy riding in the bush, don’t remember being so mindful of snakes! Every little lizard skittering off as I ride past is a potential tiger snake coming for me!

All

the tigers ive met just want to get away or just lay there. They are pretty good.
Not early season browns that jump at anything closeby.
I’ve met two Tigers in tassie - one huuuge one that was already doing a runner by the time I saw it out at Frecynet, and another one on the North South track that was as surprised as I was and also did a runner.

I can only attribute it to the big brown in Canberra we came upon walking the mutts and it had a go the dogs. Ended up taking one to the vet as she was struck at and wasn’t sure the bite had landed…

Sounds right on par. I too keep an eye on browns riding back when im in NSW. Only seen a red belly so far and i love them. I think i see more tiger snakes than people on the trails i ride in Tas.

Run over a decent sized Tiger snake right after my mate in front run it over going slow up a hill at Georgetown. No idea how he didnt see if it but i was just behind and noticed a rather excited Tiger flapping all of the place. I wheelied over it to get my feet high as possible. I think it was OK as it got its bearings and i watched it slither into the bush.

Dog vs snake yesterday in the back yard. My son was pretty sure it was a tree snake that the dog was wrestling with and the dog seemed fine so all good there.

Then today happened. There was a bit of a commotion at the back fence with the neighbours dogs barking, the birds were hardcore chirping and then there's my little mutt.....called him and he walked/wobbled five steps towards me and then he would lie down....five more steps and lie down....not looking good. Salivating quite a bit and then his bladder let go....off to the emergency vet for a hit of anti-venom. He's still there under obs but is stable so far. Fingers crossed for this little character.

The big Shepherd just sat there and watched :D

Snake was fine.

Got waaaay too close to a Tiger on a ride after work last night, weirdly I saw it before it saw me and wasn't til I dropped my foot heavily that it clocked me and leapt into some undergrowth. Didn't know snakes could leap.
