If you're not really a hot shot and don't really care just get white shirts and stuff from Big W or Myer for a little more upmarket, other than that, specialised shops.

so did you find anything decent in the end?

cant stand modern fashion, haven't bought new clothes for bloody ages because of the majority of tight jeaned gangster scenie, multiple logo'ed fezer crap annoys me. Seems that if you dont fit into:
  • surfie
  • gangster
  • emo
  • scenie tight jeans and bright colours
  • Metro

Then there is nothing out there.
Make up your own rediculous trend like i,
Long wavey golden hair (hey shut up i like having long hair)
A jersey,
cargo shorts (or ANY leggings that feel good on you) cheap shoes, and in the colder times a black hoody with so many blood, food and unknown stains on there nobody would want to talk to you.

its amazing how many people avoid you if you look like a derro (yes im from moe, SHHH)

as for the Opening post,

I work at woolies (i no right, prized job i got)
and i have to amit, the amount of f*&kwit customers we get is rediculous, i do try engage a pleasent conversation with the customers that look like they may be "fun" or want to have a yarn, but i choose to leave it at hey, how can i help you? for most, as its simple and it lets people realise you dont want to be there. but alas i to have tried to by some material goods from the 'surf shop' (for all the waves/beaches we have in moe  ) and the young girl was nice, (on the eyes and personality) and she was doing the samething, being the flirtatious whore that wanted sales, and she was somebody that wouldnt in her right mind be caught dead with somebody like me, so i jumped to conclutios it was e's or being forced to.

Alright, price conscious smart casual, business casual clothes are easy to find if you know the right places. Yeah, this may sound a but metro or whatever, but seriously, dressing well is a skill that can get you places.

Just Jeans
Despite the generally wanky stuff in the window, there's gold in here. Prices are often slashed- just like jayjay's (They're part of the just group). Picked up some awesome pinstripe trousers here, sturdy and comfortable as. Should be easy enough to get a pair of good cut Levi's from here.

Myer
Covers all the bases, again, good specials around sale time, the staff in my local one are ace.

Cotton On
Not so great, a bit teenage, but I have a cotton sweater thing from here a few years back- warm, cheap as, fits well, passes all dress restrictions if you ever go out somewhere swanky.

Roger David
Bit more pricey, less so than Tarocrap though. Good, anonymous looking stuff.

Kmart
Yeah, it's a cheaper department store, but the "Rivergum" branded shirts come highly recommended from me. $30 each or so, and you're set.

DFO's
You're in Western Sydney, surely you've hit them up. Good stuff, cheap prices, lots of selection, one location.

No!.....Just NO! wansn't there a time once where people got banned for those?
Stupid, aimless, repeated macro spamming is looked down upon.

Stupid, repeated macro spamming to reply to a post is fine, though.

No really, there has been some serious mainstream-clothing-hate on this forum in the last few years, im standing up for the mass-market!
I'll stand with you, I love mainstream clothes. I'd rather wear something decent looking thats 'in' than take my chances with a strange item and look like a douche.

If you want to shop in peace, make first contact with the salesperson/s. Go up, say Hi hows it going? and they'll leave you alone, because you've just done their first job for them.

Then there is nothing out there. Tried finding a nice clean pair of normal black jeans that arent ball cutting leg circumcising chicks jeans: ive given up. Jeans west were the worst, they went like this when years ago. FFS bring back plain ish clothes! black/dark grey/blues neutral colours we dont all want to be freaking fluro bopper lights nor do i want to be an emo.
Sorry for double post, but hell, you must not be looking hard enough.

Pair of black nudie jeans, straight leg's will set you back about $200 from general pants/universal or the like. Best wearing jeans for that price. If that's too expensive for a pair of jeans for you, go to places like jeans west, just jeans etc. I'll gaurentee you'll be able to find a pair. Surf Dive n ski/city beach/jettysurf should all sell quicksilver+ billabong jeans. my store has 3 different pairs of quality, black jeans for under $100, and no, they dont hug your legs, at all.

And with your sterotype list, I surf, i wear tight jeans sometimes if they go with what im wearing, I own clothes that would probably be classified as metro(however no fluro..eew.).

SOO many shops sell your generic blues/greys/blacks/greens whatever. Myer, David Jones, hell even places like General Pants( I know i mention them a lot, because i spend a lot of time there), Jay jays(as a last resort, please..)ALL sell simple clothes.

But hey, if nowhere sells what you like, go to lowes and buy plain coloured clothes. There is always somewhere that will have what you are looking for. You just have to find it.

Colorado for jeans and shirts/tees without huge crass logo's that are tasteful enough for smart casual business stuff. They have a straight leg jean with enough room in them to move and not pull tight, and they're great quality with a reasonable price tag of about $130.

I only read the first post in detail, then skimmed through the others... I couldn't help but feel the urge to respond, and then post my own rant.

MY STORY:In regards to Wombat's query about the company flirt policy - my second retail job was at a clothing store in the city which was aimed at the 15-16 market, yet pretended to extend to women in their late 20s.

We had a 'clothing allowance' which really meant - as your uniform, we'll give you our selection of clothes for $5 for you to wear this week in order to push the line - except that this selection of clothing was usually a tiny skirt, or a booby top. If we didn't want to wear those, we could purchase any other clothes from the store, which generally were not much better.

I vividly remember vacuuming the store one afternoon in tall high heels, and a strapless bright red dress that barely covered my bum. We had a lot of men standing around outside that day.

Buuuuut, apparently sex sells.

MY RANT:

I freakin HATE it when I go up to any person working customer service, and the first sentence I'm greeted with is:

"Are you right?" or when they're being lazy it's just "You right?"

Yes! I'm right, I'm fine. Do I look like I'm not alright? You particularly get it from 14 year olds behind the counter at McDonalds, or in pubs - but you often get it in places that should have standards... I admit when I was 14 and working at McDonalds I was a culprit. But I realised how blunt it is, and have changed my opening phrase to anyone with:

"Can I help you?" or "What can I get for you?"

It's much more pleasant.
