Good to see you find a bike that suits @Jpez I am a year in on my Deviate and only just getting to a happy place with set up. I had Raaw on my shortlist. Not sure why I crossed it off possibly stock issues. Looks awesome.

Well if you don't mind having 445mm chainstays, you can now get a UDH/SRAM "Trasmission" (lol) drivertrain on your RAAW:
Reckon Sram will make me an 11speed ‘transmission’ if I ask nicely? I so couldn’t care less about transmission. Amazing how people lose there minds over it. Someone said in the comments- ‘Kudos to Raww for keeping their bike running longer’ like they’re somehow obsolete without that ability.

This is a fantastic looking bike, nothing beats the raw look and the black colour scheme to match.
What tool is that in the stem?

Yeah I saw that and had to laugh too, but we can never tell if you SRAMbois are serious about such things... :p

It’s a OneUp EDC tool. Requires a top cap to be tapped into the steerer with a proprietary tap. Don’t need a star nut anymore. Very useful. Holds a multitool, chain breaker, tire lever and either a co2 cartridge or a plugger kit screwed onto the bottom of it which is what I have.

I’m just a SramBoi because people get so fucking religious about Shimano being the best and hating on Sram. Same with eebs. I don’t really care but when people start to eebangelize I get turned off real fast. :p

A couple of small updates.

Changed out the MT7’s and Galfer sharks for some Hayes Dominions And Intend Massives at 2.3 thick. Dominions have so much power on tap I’ve had to reprogram my brain to deal with It. Amazing brakes. And the thic intend rotors are dead straight. which is lucky as my rotor tool won’t fit over them! running the metal pads but have the semi organic and some Galfer pros to try too. I accidentally ordered the SHL levers. Designed for smaller hands. I don’t mind them but I’ll need to order the normal sized levers as these are just a tad dainty in feel.
I loved the maguras feel, modulation and power but the pads sit so close to the rotor that any slight out of true or dust would make it howl. I persevered trying to adjust and fiddle but in the end the noise did my head in.

Still fettling as you do with coil shocks but chucked a DVO Jade coil on for shits and giggles. It’s turns the bike into even more of a beast. I took it for a ride today with a lot of single track climbing to the descents and it’s no xc bike but it does fine. It did 6 days of 1000-1500 vm of climbing in NZ recently so its definitely no ‘mini downhill’ only bike.
I’d love to raise the fork to 180 and run this shock and take it to some proper chunk. I had no issues with the ohlins air ttX2 shock actually and it may still go back on but for the moment I’m enjoying the magic carpet.

And lastly replaced my 200 PNW seat post for a 240 One up v2 dropper that was on sale at MTB and I had one of their welcome back 10% off deals as well so got it for a song. Initially thought it was too long and hitting the seat post bend but turns out it was just snagging up. Its amazing to disappear that seat completely when you drop into the steep stuff. I think my PNW post has a lighter feel but the One up is pretty good.

The Mezzer withe Shockcraft shim kit in it is great. Took me a lot longer to dial in than my other stock mezzer but feels very good. It's not a plush fork until it hits the rough stuff fast and then it just goes to work. I’d like to see if I can soften it up further for the small stuff. I’m gonna try a mix of the compressions and rebound tunes available to me at its next service to see how they feel.

Still love this bike!

De-anodised the DVO already. Wish they would just offer an all black version. Their forks are close with only LSC and rebound being green.

I'll be interested to see how you go with this. I've got essentially the same situation, it's great when your pushing it but lacks that buttery feel when you're climbing or JRA. What's your riding weight and pressure(s) for the Mezzer?

I’m probably 90kg riding weight and have played with a lot of pressures and ratios but ended up back where I started which was the pre shim stack change of IRT 88. Main 58. This fork was never as smooth as my other stock Mezzer so I wonder if it could use a burnish. Easy to check but I’ve not done so yet. I’m going to try the ‘poppy’ rebound tune as I find the rebound not as lively as I’d like and the ‘softer’ compression stack but I’m pretty sure the softer compression might be a step to far and it’ll sit too far in its travel. It’s a free experiment though.
Hard charging this fork is incredible but yeah as you said JRA and small chattery stuff it’s not there yet.

Ah that’s the work of Kten.

Dunno if it's a running in period thing, but when I first got my Mezzer it felt like the recommended pressures were for someone hitting really, really big stuff. So I initially set it up a fair bit softer.

Over time though, I seem to have ended up close to factory recommendations.

I think like Smashpot etc the recommended pressures are super stiff like you say.
Consensus on the forums is most run the pressures a bit lower. My current pressures are a bit lower than manitous recommended.

I'm 75kg ready to ride and have the mid point tune from Dougal in it, but I suspect we have different tune sheets. The one I saw from Kten was quite different. I'm 80/45 in mine and it's not as buttery smooth as my other Mezzer but that's had the Rulezman treatment so I was also wondering if a burnish would help. Amazing fork once things get rough though, it just gets better the rougher the trail is!

I got mine from KTEN as well and he’s about same weight and riding style etc and he’s loved his tunes. Interestingly this fork never felt as supple as my other so I’m definitely thinking bushes and quad ring mod.

No need! I just can’t see these 2.3’s warping.

Rulezman only does friction reduction mods..lots of polishing of stanchions and sizing bushes correctly makes for a smmmoooooth action. Have you considered putting the Dougal damper into that fork? It would be a great combo and probably be one of the best performing Mezzers out there.

There’s always a need to buy a novelty size shifter

Two people on the MTBr mezzer thread just said they just burnished the bushings and are amazed with the difference. Suddenly plush over the small chatter. I’ll be searching around for a burnishing tool I thing and doing the quad ring mod.
