G'day, I'm very new to this! Thought I would say hello in here.

I have been enthused into starting on the MTB. Last week I bought a GT Avalanche Expert 2008 from a private seller.

I'm looking to do trail rides and also a bit of cross country as I improve, not ruling out any of the downhill stuff but going to start off taking it easy. I'm 21, fairly fit but not going to assume it will transfer to bike riding. I live in Berwick VIC, so southeast Melbourne. Lysterfield is about 20 minutes from my place. I work on the mornington peninsula.

Does anyone know of any clubs or communities that I could consider joining?

Nice to meet you all,
Dan

LDTR is right on your doorstep - http://lysterfieldmtb.com/

and then theres rotorburn, i hear thats an awesome community ;)

best thing to do is just get out there, lysterfield has just opened right up and all the trails have been rebuilt so with that on your doorstep, you wont have to look very far for a while, grab a map from the parks vic site and do some exploring. i might stay away from the competition trail for the time being if i were you but the rest is reasonably friendly as long as you take it easy until you are familiar with it all. you could try some mtb skills clinics if you wanted and the guys at trailmix (cafe in lysterfield) run social rides aswell so drop in and have a chat with them.

enjoy the GT, i've still got my 2002 avalanche, still buckets of fun :)
