Think I’ve seen speed cameras maybe twice down here, and they’re bleeding obvious big white trailers they leave parked up with “this is a speed camera” signs on them. But getting above 50 around Hobart takes some effort on the narrow and rough roads!

Canberra helpfully labels its big white vans too - still got done by one though…

Don't they have to make it really obvious everywhere they put them?

Nope, we get random cars parked in random places on the side of the road middle of nowhere.

Was the same in SA.

Still obvious if you pay attention. If it was just a random driver, they're either out of the car or brake/tail/indicators are on.

They do the discrete car thing around here, but put warning signs up everywhere. I have accidentally startled a few operators riding past. They must be a little on edge.

Nope, zero warnings in Vic :)

I quite like WAs approach - a little “thank you for not speeding” sign after the unmarked hidden camera :)

They done away with the speed camera sign after the camera years ago here and have now upgraded their late model commos to Hyundai Staria vans.

They stick out like dogs balls with 3 large clear holes in the limo tint rear windows and have cameras at the front and back. Vans are white, silver or black.

We get a mix or Toyota Klugers and Kia Sorrentos. I always thought a clapped out old AU Falcon wagon with a smoke machine under the bonnet and the bonnet up would take the most tickets as no-one would suspect it for a moment. Probably can't lease that though... :p

Funny you should say that. Mid-2000s in SA that was the Govt Fleet Vehicle of choice. You slowed down going past a Falcon Wagon with blue Govt plates. They cottoned on to the plate thing and started registering them with private plates, so it became slow down past ANY Falcon Wagon parked at the side of the road.

According to one of my workmates, who I would say 50% of his stories are true.
These new Starias have a fancy swivel chair in the middle of the van, a large battery system to run cooling and heating, plus inverter with coffee machine, kettle etc.

A guy I worked with made a habit of pulling up behind, blocking the camera, grabbing a tool bag out of the back of his ute and knocking on the doors telling them he was a mechanic and he could maybe help their broken down vehicle. When told it was a speed camera would start talking about them parking dangerously etc. Got yelled at a lot.

For a while back in the day it could literally be anything. I’d heard they were borrowing/hiring cars from used car dealers and any old car parked could get you!
You have to pay attention to the way it’s parked and where…

Sometimes they are in interesting spots these days. Luckily its mostly the white vans though as most of the police radar activities have been scaled down like the rest of the ACT police force, they used to be the tricky ones to spot especially the bikes near the cotter.

Pay parking at Stromlo until 9pm on a Saturday, a bit rich, carpark wasn't too full, but then Sundays racing was in pretty abmisal weather, hopefully not to many people got caught out not paying for parking whilst running shuttles, lots of parents whinging about how bad its become in the past few years from little maintenance. Bonus is if from NSW, the ACT cant lookup your plates on EasyPark yet...... I think Vic and Qld are the same boat, just to expensive and need proper clearances to look at driver data.

I hope the money starts going back into the park soon, at least some maintainence.

I was convinced I got done by one in rural NSW. Was a new MG SUV (probably less reliable than an AU with 500,000km) on the side of the road, I just assumed it was broken down but didn't realise until directly next to it that it was a speed camera.

Wind! Holy fuck it's windy and then gusty on top of that. Just rode into a headwind all the way to the local jumps and I'm not sure the big line in the open quarry is going to be a wise choice.

Also...it isn't really a very big line, it's blue at best.

Removing decade old 'tubeless rim tape' (aka Norton packaging tape) after it expired...
IMG_20240410_152803384.jpg

The plastic tape itself peeled off the adhesive and reinforcing layer so (after failing to do anything more than make a mess with brake cleaner and a rag) I had to pick the rest off millimetre by millimetre with what seems to be an old dentist pick. After which, only white spirits would lift the remaining crud.

LTIH - I ordered some stuff from Pushys last week and paid for express shipping, firstly they sent some of it the next day and then the last item the day after that. First item says it will be delivered by Friday check the tracking and see it’s on its way to my town then crickets, comes up with it’s running late.

So I expect it on Monday, nope, Tuesday, nope, so I lodge a ticket with Australia Post to see where it’s at, they came back pretty quickly to tell me it’s lost and to lodge a claim with Pushys.
Then we have the second parcel, telling me it’s running late as well, then I get a message from them saying it’s ready for pick up from the Darra Post office back in Queensland, WTF.

So I lodged another ticket with them to get it redirected to Victoria, then I checked the tracking again and it’s saying it was coming to Melbourne but then it’s going back to Queensland WTF!
So I ask them what’s going on with it and they say it was incorrectly sorted again and is on it’s way.

So currently I have received nothing, express postage at its finest.
