Lifting the Ute on the cheap

Looking at doing a cheap 2" lift with just leaf spring shackles and coil spacers, anyone had much experience with this?

*edit* Are coil spacers even legal in WA while we are here..

What sort of ute for starters?

Should work ok but won't get any extra travel, just more clearance for bigger tyres

Nothing much wrong with coil packing but bear in mind the prospect of using all that travel and having the spring fall out because it is packed out beyond the retainer. Also have to make sure that you don't lift beyond the shock travel because that will quickly destroy your shocks.

check with RTA or whom ever fucks you over, transport wise in that state!..All parties are really cracking down on this.some states are more lenient than others, but would hate to go to all that trouble and added expense just to get defected!
of course the likes of ebay and similar will sell the hardware to do it, doesn't mean you can!..unless its a comp truck, then the skys the limit.
I was threatened with having to get an engineers cert for this!??

Not sure on the exact limits in your state, but QLD is 2" suspension (includes springs, spacers, whatever), 2" body that requires a mod plate but no formal testing, and 1" height gain in tyres, so 31"s to 33"s is acceptable. Maximum of a 125mm increase total.

Spring spacers may be legal, but I believe that extended shackles are not, at least here in QLD they're illegal anyway.
