I needed a part for my bike a couple of weeks ago - propriety bottom shock mounting nutsert things .
So had to go to Trek store .
I looked at the lovely shiny bikes - all 2 avail now …..till June2022
And couldn’t justify the $11,000 for a bike just like what I have - except lower spec .
it would be easy for the manufacturers to supply the farm sets , but no where near as profitable , the gear that comes out of Europe is a lot more price / spec/ performance viable .
But ask someone to purchase a Fezzari or Bulls and they go , not Specialised or Trek .
Our market is tight and controlled by the bigger players - both have ‘ company stores ‘
Im sure that the non ebike market is similar , a couple of niche stores - no issue with that ) or buy a “ big name “ bike .
The supply chain issues will continue for at least 18 months - and I would imagine , the market may stagnate to degree as the changes in spec will be slow and ‘ constrained by supply chain challenges ‘
In saying that it’s hard to buy a bad bike , car , motorcycle as the tech/specs curve is at the peak - the next phase of development - esp in ebike s will be more like the ‘ light e ‘ smaller less powerful battery motor combos and ‘ big E ‘ for the all day super adventure riders - this tho is a smaller market
- Rotorburn is a niche .
Most mtbr s want to get out , get a ride in and do other stuff .
Even for me a short ride is a 3-4 hour turnaround , and I’m not hardcore ’ that’s ‘ just going for a ride ‘
I wish components were more reasonable priced - I still try to figure how a shock can be $600 and a set of forks are $1800 ?
How much would a frame set and a motor , controller, battery be , in a reasonably light , reliable mid mount set up ?
Sorry long ramble .
Tldr version
how much?
what is the timeline?
