It seems that the answer is no, other people haven't had this experience with mobile mechanics and no, naming and shaming isn't appropriate.

I'd even throw out a massive generalisation and say that the kind of people who would hire a mobile mechanic for such simple jobs are probably also the kind of people who wouldn't notice something that was overlooked like a spacer missing on the cranks or, god forbid, re-using of grease.

I'm still confused about why the owner of the bike wasn't the one to make the original post. Chigs seems to care more about mate's bike than mate does. Or is the bike merely a metaphor for something else entirely?
