The seat tube and fork angles sure feel different!!

Spent the ride up getting a feel for it and stopping a lot to adjust things. The front wheel wants to flop over sideways on tight corners.

First real descent was Western Wedgetail, scene of my undoing so I still take it easy through there. And was waiting for that one bolt is forgotten to tighten to cause a crash, so took a bit to start giving it some speed.

Rear end sure is sensitive to shock pressure and rebound, and yes you can feel it getting caught up on sharp edges in a way the Trance doesn’t. Going to take a few rides to get my head around how the single pivot behaves I think.

But it’s a weapon at speed. For such a loooong bike it does like the fast switchbacks, and is way more flickable than it should be.

Shimano 12 speed - awesome. Deore brakes with metal pads - awesome. One ride in, yes I like it. Will take more time to learn its character properly.

Some temporary parts on there... Cut the fork longer than it should be until I’m sure exactly how high a stack I want. Kowalski Brother top cap from the last Mont 24 show bag...

Crank from the Mongoose... 30t ran out of gears fast!

Dust was good for finding the one hydraulic leak, oops!
Needs some better grips too...

And it’s got the OneUp dropper from the Trance at the moment... Went to install the Manic I’d had in a drawer for a while and the bloody cartridge had died. Dammit...

That rear brake caliper looks pretty exposed sitting out there on it's lonesome, I reckon it would be the first thing that would be knocked off/bent when I inevitably layed it over if I owned one.

I thought that too. Lucky then I’m not planning on crashing it ;)

But I reckon the adapter would be sacrificial.

Glad to see this up and running. Have you booked on for some airborne training sessions yet?

Re: the rear caliper it would be so much nicer if it had a swivelling hose mount...
True, but this connection system is so much easier to work with.

It would, and I maybe would have sprung for slx had I known. But it’s working ok this way, this thing is all about function over aesthetics ;)

Mr Greenfield
I was so looking forward to the bet going the other way.

I was dreaming of pink spokey doneys with no slot, so they could be slid onto spokes at the build stage, and crowd funding the pro4 hubs, spokes and Stan’s rims for Moorey. With loctite on the nipples so they were pink spokey dokeys for life!

You and me both... But, have to say this isn't a shit outcome (notwithstanding the state of my offset account...).

Didnt get a chance to ride today, but spent a bit of time staring at them parked next to each other and im genuinely conflicted after only one ride. I have to sell one of them in time...

Depends how I want to be riding over the next couple of years. Building fitness and getting in miles with long days in the saddle - its the Trance for sure. Its a much better (and lighter) bike for "XC" type riding.

The Orange is a more specialised machine, it will progress me on downhill and airborne riding for sure. Should probably look at getting my collarbone plate removed in anticipation of the next big crash...

Built identically, orange should be lighter. They’re always the lightest ‘like for like’ alloy bikes in my stable.
Yours is heavier than @hipstars Alpine was, and that had no carbon other than cranks (and a piggyback shock)
If you keep it, just have 2 wheelsets (more if you’re feeling cheeky). One for XC days, one for gravity days. Changing tyres to suit the day is lame, but the bike will do both. Graeme Mudd rode a Five to a podium at a National Round at Youies.
I have spare wheels ready to bang on to suit XC, trail, enduro or DH trails.
