Advice x3 KS E-ten, Zee 1x10 conversion, wider rims.

You can lock them in position at any height, they rise up pretty slow too.
ok so more questions for both eten and reverb:

would it hurt it to hardly ever be at max height?

Also any issues with storing it upside down/on its side? I have my bike stored vertically against a wall so the seat tub (and shocks too) and facing upside down.

Definitely no problem with the KS.

I however am very normal. Trust me.
Except it's not..... One ratio jump in the middle is wider than 10-sp, the others are the same, then you've just got the granny tacked on the back.
Mmm. nope?

1x10 11-42 (with an expander cog I was running) 11-13-15-19-21-24-28-32-36-42
1x11 11-42 (stock XT cassette) 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-37-42

The gap between 15-19 is massive, even if you source a 16t and put it in there instead of the 15t, its still a massive ratio change over 11spd.

I spend a lot of time in the 13-21t section of the cassette, the only reason I went to 11spd was to get the ratio tighter.

I always ride mine lower than full height except for when I do a long extended climb.

Agree with Boomking
I can't see a problem with that because they have a sealed gas & oil filled cartridge unit and my bike lays on it's side in the back of my ute during transportation. I've never used a reverb so I can't compare quality between the two.

You put the dropper at its maximum extension and then set the seat height for optimal leg extension for pedalling while seated by sliding the lower section of the dropper in the seat tube like you would a normal post That way when you extend the dropper to its maximum the height is where you need it for pedalling.

If you're leaving it lowered most of the time I suggest you need a downhill bike!

Yeah I get that's how its supposed to be done but I have a 6 year old hardtail and its seat clamp height is pretty high so I only have about 150mm from seat clamp to seat rails...

That's heaps to set up correctly, if you can slam the dropper right into the frame.

Not really, many droppers have a 165ish mm collar to rail length at full extension, even those with a 100mm drop.

You may be able to slice 15 to 20mm off the seat tube without issue.

100mm droppers do yes, my 100mm drop length eten is 160mm collar to rail,

So a 75mm dropper would be the best option if you want full extension accuracy, or just squish a longer one down with your bum.

I was working off stock:

10-sp. 11-34: 11-13-15-17-19-21-23-26-30-34
11-sp. 11-40: 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-27-31-35-40

10-sp. 11-36: 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-36
11-sp. 11-42: 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-37-42

Basically you fucked your cassette; general practise when fitting expanders is to get a 16 to replace BOTH the 15 and 17 so you even out the ratio gaps in that section.

Micro adjusting to get correct ride height, via travel adjustment sux balls ... Better to get a shorter post as above ^.

I also think your best option is 300/75 dropzone ... It's a little pricier then the Eten, but it's also a more refined post. It has good end user serviceability ... Several generations of development ... Fundamentally the same cart as the LEV ... Just has the cable at the saddle.

you can buy it overseas of course ... But if you want to buy local ... Our store finder is slowly getting populated ... Sorry. Call or email if you want a store recommendation.

I did say I use a 42t in the origonal comment I made.

Even with putting a 16t in the jump from 13-16-19... is too big, there is a reason why that end of the cassette is factory spaced by only 2t, the jump from 13-16 is 23%, while the jump from 13-15 is 13.3%.

Hence if your going to use or need a 40/42t 11 spd has a much closer ratio, this is the benefit of 11spd and the reason for that extra cog / weight and cost.

Definitely do a comparison between CRC and Merlin as I picked up a Zee 1x10 setup including SLX cassette, XT chain for $144 excluding the front ring. Just did a super quick search and you can pick up an 1x11 XT for $326 including XT cassette, KMC chain and Raceface front ring from Merlin.
$270ish for m8000 shifter, chain, cassette and derailleur on wiggle currently. $240ish for m7000 on crc.

ooo... that looks promising!!!

So I think I have decided to go 1x11. Will probably end up with XT as long as I can get it reasonably cheap!

For the dropper.. I am still undecided, I didn't realise they made 75mm droppers but they are of course more expensive so I really don't know! I don't ride my bike THAT much and I have ridden bikes for 15+ years without a dropper so not sure if the extra $$$ are worth it...im sure I will like it once I have it....

As far as rims go, I was hoping to just get replacement rims and use my existing hubs and spokes hopefully and just get something slightly wider than what I have just so my 2.35 don't look so squashed on the current stock rims (19mm maybe?!?).

They are well worth it, it's like hitting another dimension on a bike when you corner and jump on trails and I'm still rolling on 26 inch.:tinfoil3:
