This was sourced from 9msn. Although I have kids of my own and I would do the same in that situation, I don't think the person with the bat should be charged.

It seems to me that it is illegal to protect your own family......my 2cents.

Police in Perth are investigating an incident in which a woman held up a hotel bottle shop and then attempted to snatch a baby from a parked car.

A police spokeswoman told ninemsn the baby's mother ran out of a nearby house in the southern Perth suburb of Bertram and hit the woman with a baseball bat.

The exact details of what happened remain unclear but police believe that the woman was involved in a robbery at the Kwinana Hotel bottle shop, along with a male accomplice, before attempting to take the child.

Police later came across the man and woman, who was bleeding from the head, ABC News reports.

A 30-year-old male has been charged with one count of aggravated robbery. Police are unsure as to what charges will be laid against the woman who tried to snatch the baby.

The mother who hit her with the baseball bat may also face charges.

It's got to do with excessive force. Some force may be justified, but over the top force is not.

For instance, I may be getting beaten by another person. I might score a lucky punch, which stops the beating. I can't then go and continue punching and beat the other person.

This is why martial arts people can be done for excessive force when they only deliver one punch or kick. Their punches and kicks are so much more lethal as they have trained for that.

So the woman who was the mother might have been justified using some force to stop the snatching, but a baseball bat was seen as excessive by the police. I have a feeling that the charged will be dropped anyway.

PINT of Stella. mate!

Yeah, she doesn't exactly sound like Mum of the year. She's left her kid sitting the car outside a bottle shop whilst she buggers off into a nearby house. I'm not sure what sort of neigbourhood we're talking about here but I'm pretty sure it's not a white-picket fenced small town in America. People in Australia who have baseball bats readily at hand aren't normally training to be the next Babe Ruth.

Anyway it's a mute point as the cops don't appear to have charged her with anything.

media reports like this make the pig go on a poo flinging rampage... the constant use of fear in the media is sickening.
