Hi everyone!
Fat Tyre Flyers have been in contact with Jason Wood, the Liberal Party member for the seat of La Trobe, with regards to offering to financially support the mountain bike trail network we are planning in conjunction with the Cardinia Environment Coalition (CEC), land managers of Beaconsfield Nature Reserve (BNR). If elected, Jason has pledged $150,000 towards the project, which is aimed at developing an environmentally sensitive trail network for cyclists and walkers to IMBA standards in the beautiful BNR, which incorporates the Beaconsfield Reservoir. The CEC allowed the FTF club restricted access to the reserve for last year’s 6hr Enduro, which worked most successfully. Having been taken on a tour through the BNR, we can assure you that the area is most appropriate for mountain bikes and will provide a stunning, intimate and natural setting.
The Fat Tyre Flyers mountain bike club is initiating this proposal because of our long association with the scout camp and relationship with CEC but the big picture vision is for Yarra Ranges Mountain bikers, Full Gas Peddlers, Dirt Riders Mountain bike club, Red Hill Riders and any other unaffiliated but interested riders to work together on this exciting proposal.
As has been proven countless times around the world, a beneficial outcome of a project such as this is the drastic reduction of “anti-social behaviour and associated levels of crime”, which the community local to the BNR would be most grateful for.
Jason Wood served as the federal member for La Trobe from 2004 to 2010 and needs every vote possible return to office and make this happen, and we want this for the area very much indeed. If you live in the seat of Latrobe and are as yet undecided for whom you will vote, give a thought to the mountain biking community and the huge potential for growth in trails in the area.
Happy Trails!
