Totem 2 Step Solo Air

I have just aquired a set of 2007 Rock Shox Totems and was only just reading about the problems they were plagued with recently. I've read it's the commmon thing to change them to a permanant 180mm travel when they start to play up, but does anyone know how to fix them and retain the travel adjust if it does happen?
Thanks in advance

Some of these forks can be problematic, but Ive got Both Solo Air totem, and a pair of 2 step totems, and Ive got 2 step Lyriks and have never had any issues. I also service my own forks.

Sometimes (from new) the 2 step will lose its maxmum extended length by a few mm, an indication either oil levels arent perfect, or a O-ring thats slightly leaky -usually due to manufacture tolerance.

Others bitch about them after riding them hard for a while, then they suffer a big loss of travel, probably because theyve never been serviced, and dirty oil seeps past the seals.

Either way, its an easy fix with a new set of o rings, a clean, service and new oil. A good LBS who specialises in MTB forks should be able to do it no probs. Or get the instructions from the web, buy the oil and parts and do it yourself.

Once you have a good working set, they are , in my opinion, a plush riding fork.

If your not happy with the 2 step, conversion is by replacing the internals with a solo air kit. See your LBS for that.
