Stumpy or Spicy?

I'm currently in the market for a new Trails/AM bike - pretty much a do it all bike.

I don't plan on being the fastest or the best, but just want to go out and have some fun and get fit!

I've been going around in circles deciding on what bike to get and would like some suggestions/opinions.

Bikes I have been looking at:
1.) 2013 Giant Reign 1
2.) 2013 Specialized Stumpy FSR Evo
3.) 2013 Lapierre Spicy 316

I think I may have already ruled out the Giant, so that leaves either the Stumpy or the Spicy.

What do you guys think?

I cant see why anyone would buy a new 26er FS bike at the moment when there are so many screaming deals on secondhand ones.

and that is just the first of seven pages. It is a 26er FS buyers market out there - go hard mate.

I would second that with only this proviso - warranty.... Lifetime when you buy new with Spesh not sure on lapierre but otherwise there are so many deals to be had at the moment second hand... Although maybe not those 2 exact bikes

The stumpy is pretty good value and back-up. Spicy is more like a Splesh enduro that the stumpy if you are comparing.. Spicy - heavy.

I can only tell you that the stumpy evo is a very good all round bike which i can recommend..pic of mine!evo 1.jpg

Thanks for the heads up.

Didn't think of buying second hand to be honest. As I am relatively new to MTB, I'm not the biggest expert into fixing components if things were to go wrong, so i guess new bike warranty is a big thing for me.

In saying that though, that Santa Cruz Butcher looks like a cracking bike for a very good price!

I got a 2012 Stumpy Evo new from a bike shop for less than any of those S/H bikes mentioned. Sure, some of them are great bikes, but even though they are well priced for 'boutique' bikes, they're friggin expensive for the average bike buyer.

I've ridden several AM bikes including the Reigns and the Stumpy is by far the most all out fun bike I've tried. Also climbs like a mountain goat, for those who like a bit of exercise.

+1 for the stumpy, I have the comp but wish I had the evo. The Laps are a great bike though, maybe a bit on the heavier side of the stumpy.

That seems to be the verdict.
My bro has a carbon stumpy and a good mate has a carbon stumpy evo and they both love 'em, best bikes they have owned they reckon.
unfortunately i could only afford the alloy version. maybe i'll upgrade to a carbon stumpy or enduro in a few years time!

Sick, did you get a good deal?
not really :(
i rang a few shops and barely anyone had any stock in large. had to dig deep to find one! but they said i could get 20% off accessories from the shop.
