Yep Redwoods. Just buy the trail map app and get lost in there. Loads of trails.... I was there for four days and didn't even bother with Skyline.

Grab your bike and head in any direction leading into the whakarewarewa (redwood forest).
I recommend grabbing a tranky (trail hanky) from any of the local bike shops. It has a complete trail map on there and fits in your pocket.
My favorite loop began with Katore Jumps and the tickler arriving at intersection 6 for a quick drink. Then head into the best trails south of the equator!! Intersection 7 is where the shuttles will pick you up. Or strap in here for some serious climbs.
