this afternoon while working on my bike
it was flipped upside down
there was leakage from the compression knob
from google it seems to be a common problem
would this affect the use of the fork?
or is it is just oil for seal lubrication
or from the Compression damper cartridge?

You did the Google search, what was the collective experience?

New Seals

Collectively
it means new seals/orings on the cartridge
I just dont have a clean space to do that sort of work on my bike
No idea where to get serviced in perth,
bit weary about shipping east, for a simple service

This is a large problem, whilst doing a flip oil may drip into your eye, temporary blinding you and causing a crash.
Fixes
-1. ride with goggles with tear offs on them, therefore goggles can be cleared and no oil gets in your eye
-2. keep the bike rubber side down.
-3. duct tape

you can try 2 or 3 of these at once.

It's the o-ring inside the cartridge and there's no way to actually replace it. Get the new one for like $70 and you'll be right. You just need more fork oil though because it's smaller!

In your case ignorance is obviously bliss (but no excuse none the less).
