Well there you have it. Down here it is something like $40 a year. From what I've heard from mum (worked as an ambo for a while, now a nurse) the cost of airlifting can easily reach into the tens of thousands. OUCH.
Read somewhere the average is $30,000 hopefully he sorts something out!

Bloke at work crashed his moto with no ambulance cover. Two ambulance's and then air lifted, he was looking at a massive bill. His wife went down to centre link and sorted him out with a health care card which they back dated to the date of the accident, which entitled him to free ambulance cover from that date. Very very lucky boy!!

Are you saying that if you're on the dole in Australia you get free ambo cover? What about students?

I would have thought that would be fraud - ie a criminal act.

I'm sure if he wasn't eligible for it from that date, centre link of all places wouldn't have done it. He said he met what ever criteria needed and was deemed to be eligible from the date of the accident. I'll say it again very luck boy.

I used to know people who made fake health care cards in Photoshop... Personally I'm just going to pay the $80 to renew my membership (or quit uni and go on the dole)...

Yeah if you have health care card in NSW you don't have to pay. My whole family was taken to the hospital down the road against our wishes, we could have driven but ambo's were worried. Then bam 1800 bill even though all three of us in same Ambo for 5 klms!
As it was a result of our house burning down, centerlink helped straight up by back dating health care card to date of fire. Though the day before the fire I doubt we would have been entitled.

Why?..........
I think that people who enter into full-time training in order to come out at the end with a job should receive at least the same benefits as those who are not working and on benefits (for whatever reasons). It's not like you can study full-time and hold down a job... It costs a shitload of money to go to uni these days, at the very least students should get a health care card to make life slightly easier. It's not like people go to uni for the hell of it anymore.

Stop with the ambulance cover thing guys.
The crash was Nerang... Queensland.
It is covered. I mean we pay double for car rego, triple for driver's licence, I am sure the government can afford it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, NSW is the most fucking ridiculous for Rego costs & licensing, hence why my boss registers his cars in QLD or VIC.

Poor bastard, it's the recovery/ rehabilitation time off that will hurt his hip pocket the most...
