Racing was hard in the heat for all categories but especially tough in the Elite Men. There may have been a slightly smaller field this race with only 14 riders (one of those riders being female rider, Sarsha Huntington), but that didn’t mean the competition wasn’t tough. All eyes were on the Ashgrove Cycles boys as they have the team of Castillo, Levinson & Young. But with Castillo away on his honeymoon it was up to the 2 other boys to take the win.

Levinson & Young didn’t have it all their own way though as the field was blown away by a young French rider who was blasting them all out of the gates. DH World Cup rider, Simon Cardon, is in Brisbane on holidays and decided to race the 4X round.

The final came and we saw the usual riders in the gate, Richard Levinson & Michael Young, as well as the French man, Cardon and rounding out the field was Kerry King.

The gate dropped and Levinson looked like he missed the gate and dropped back behind the 3 other riders. Young was in front with Cardon & King right on his wheel. In the first corner King made a move on Cardon but was shut down by the French man. But Young had the lead and the legs on him to take it through to the finish line. Young had a comfortable win in 1st, with Cardon just beating King for 2nd and Levinson had to settle for 4th. This win for Young puts him in the lead for the series from Levinson but only by 8 points so the last round of the Series will be the decider.

In the Under 17 Mens category we had some Under 15 riders mixing it with the bigger boys. In the final it was two U/17’s against two U/15’s. And the young ones wanted to show them who were the best. But the U/17’s come out in front with Tom Selway getting the whole shot and finsiheing in 1st place. While Oliver Veneris placed in 2nd and Harrison Riebelt & George Hickman in 3rd and 4th respectively.

In the Sport Men, the old guys came out front with the lone Vet rider having to race the Sport Men category. Brett Swift, took the win from Warwick McNab with David Quirk in 3rd and Ben Gyetvay in 4th.

The LAST round of the QLD 4X Series takes place on the 7th February at the Toowoomba Show Grounds. It will be the decider for the Series places. Remember, that if you wish to be considered in the Series points then you have to have raced at least 2 rounds.

Thanks must lastly go to the organizers for the event, Logan City BMX Academy and the organizers for the whole Series, Flash Point Promotions.
