Oxy gets destroyed (again) - updated with more bad news

I can go a little further... here's the rough plan we're working on. The main plan from this document made it into the revised DA lodged by State Government, so it's more than just a dream at this stage.

Unfortunately for anyone hoping for a steep, rocky, rooty natural DH trail: that's simply not possible on a barren clay-capped landfill with 40m of drop. But the terrain is pretty much ideal for bike park style trails, and the goal would be to maximize feature density. Mini-golf trails, kind of like Oxy. But Oxy was built by hand for free; here we'll have machines, 20,000 cubes of dirt, and a few hundred thousand bucks (for trail construction alone). Quality over quantity.

The dirt jump area is about the same size as Gorge Road.

^ looks like fun. What is the terrain like? Are we talking smooth loam or clay trails? Or more rocky and bumpy?

l am interested wether this site area was chosen or allocated for the bike park, or this area or site chosen best suited from by the type of gradient it holds, being the key to maximin flow and appeal to the different trails. Which would make for the particle sense.

For what it's worth a plug for the big bikes! As possible features go, for the gravity line as a push to provide a mash of rock sections to negotiate, at least to be enable for those with bigger bikes, to roll out to get a slice of what's to offer, given a mix of table tops on any quicker sections of trail, this just ain't going to happen. It's looks like there is still plenty of land on that western slope, may be in the future?

I'm sure everything has been greatly thought out, with every intention to provide for what the site represents.
Thanks for posting up this map, it really adds to the reality, progress is being made, it is encouraging news.
Cheers!

Clay and smooth. It'll all be imported dirt, as we cannot dig into the ground (it's literally rubbish).

The goal of this bike park isn't to in any way satisfy the needs of riders who want to ride natural terrain in the bush. We're being quite upfront about this to both riders and the authorities; some aspects of MTB require being in nature, and not on a barren landfill. This is to provide the sorts of "high impact" trails that cannot reasonably be expected in national parks and the like.

The push for a proper "natural" trail network in the area is just as important, and occurring in parallel.

That sounds nice.

Update.... heavy machinery has done it's thing on Road Track and Berm Track. New signs installed, and possible cameras.

We have sought confirmation from NPWS, and they have provided assurance that they did not give approval for use of their logo on the signs, and had no idea this would actually happen.

Went out to oxy for the first time in a while all pumped for a big day only to find total destruction!! Does any one how it got to this point? I know there had been talk about keeping people off moon rock because of the carvings and some people kept riding that section but was that the only reason it came to this?? It seemed as if they had no desire to co-exist but it lasted years without being dozed. Why now?

In the end, it just kind of happened. Moon Rock was the trigger, but in the end from what we can tell MLALC got a CEO who hates bikes.

I'm inventing a saying that kids will put on inspirational memes in ten years: " He who does not like bikes is a fucking tool".

It's actually a Secret Group on FB, so you'll need to be invited to gain access. This was done to keep various parties from finding the group and accessing it.

What a tool! No place in this world for fools like that.. So frustrating that for someone to have the possibility of legalizing a trail they need to lobby for at least a decade for something to maybe potentially possibly happen!! At the rate it's going we'll be trail advocates for our kids..

In saying that good luck with the Belrose project! Glad we have people like you looking to build on what we have and legitimize what we do.
