Ourimbah State Downhill in High Definition

Hey there boys and girls,

This vid is of the Ourimbah State Downhill and is filmed in High Definition 1080i
It has been edited in Premier with a few extra HD plugins. The total length is 7min 10secs, and is around the 540MB mark. (Yes, it's a *.wmv file)

I don't think the farkin file server will handle this size and I know eengoe definately won't + the download will be biatch. So if you'd like a copy i'm willing to burn a DVD (with the *.wmv file on it) and post it anywhere in Australia for $10 which will cover the DVD media and postage. Just send me a PM if your interested.

The only way to watch it is if your computer is powerful enough. To download a High Definition file to test your computer hardware go to:
http://members.iinet.net.au/~n20/HighDef/ and download the ducks.mpeg file and see if it plays on your computer. OR go to:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/content_provider/film/ContentShowcase.aspx
and pick a 1080 file to download and try out. If your computer plays it smoothly then you'll be able to play my video.

I will be converting a lower quality one at a later date that i'll upload to eengoe or farkin file server.

The video covers both practise day and race day.

I'll also add on the DVD the full quality Mt Buller Nationals. This is not in High Definition just in standard digital video.

Can you make the quality like other videos so its downloadable?
High Definition mate, its barly viewable if you compress it to much, this is why he is offering this. and his the only one putting in the effort.

Will this play in the home DVD player?
No.

You'll need to watch it on your computer. Or if you have some sought of Windows Media Center setup you can use that as well.

If you do have your computer hooked up to the tv make sure your TV, plasma or LCD is High Definition capable. Otherwise your normal 17"+ computer screen will be fine with Windows Media Player

worst thread ever?

Why don't you just convert it to a lower quality one from the get go so that everyone can watch it? We don't care THAT much about quality, jesus this is mtb not porn!

he has already compressed the shit out of it.
8 minutes of HD footage is usually about 5 gig, or a little less...considering he has used the WMV codec I would presume it is aready usless to watch as HD, but I can't say as I havent used the codec myself (is it a new codec for HD, or just the V9 rendering HD? I Dunno if that would work...guessing it's a new codec..then again does it even matter?)
anyway, I might be interested if he was offereing a fully uncompressed dvd of it...
converting it to SD and then compressing it would defeat the purpose of what he is trying to do, I doubt he is trying to show off his filming talents as much as he is trying to see what people think of the quality (although I'm sure he would want to know he is doing a good job)

anyway, did you capture it in premiere? or did your camera come with software for capture and you just dropped it into premiere (as I would have to do with vegas, as it can edit and render HD only, as of yet).
Did you get the 3ccd sony or the single simod (spelling?) model. I'm guessing it's sony as they are the only ones with consumer HD at the moment as far as I know.

anyway, stop asking the guy for 'compressed' versions of it.

A full uncompressed version won't fit on a 4GB DVD. I'll do an uncompressed version on the weekend and see what size it ends up being. It might fit on a dual layer i.e. 8GB. That will be avi and it will use the CineForm Codec

Yes it's captured in Premiere using Aspect HD.

By the sounds of it, its clearly not net freindly.

You've compressed it, but why not make a low res version?

Keeping it at 1080i seems a bit silly. I bet no one here even runs a resolution as big as 1920x1080.

Lets be reasonable, say 720x400 ? Bring the filesize down to around 100-150MB and I'll host it here if you wish. 540MB for an 8min video is plain silly.

Ok the idea was to bring out a high definition video and let everyone watch the race in this resolution. The difference is enourmous compared to DVD or standard digital video. As I said in the first post, I will be releasing a low res, higher compressed, version in about 1-2weeks that will be net friendly. So stay tuned

Ah sorry mate, missed that bit.

Looking forward to checking it out. Can you take some example screen shots for us at the 1080i resolution?

I'm getting a copy off him tomorrow, so I'll let everyone know how it turns out - great I'm sure!

Well I watched it this morning - that is excellent!

The camerawork is well done, good editing, I LOVE the ghosting riders effect, that really is something well done, and I have not seen that before on a bike video. And the titles really have been done VERY WELL.

It's a good video in general of the Ourimbah race, and the high definition features make it well worth the watch. My home computer, a three year old ex-lease Dell could not play it, but the new HP(Pentium 4) here at work had no problem. I recommend having a look.

Great work Nitrosoxide!
