The mountain bike tracks at Ourimbah State Forest will be the racing arena for two cycling events over the next two weekends. Local mountain bike race organiser Rocky Trail Entertainment will host the final round of its SHIMANO MTB Grand Prix this Saturday, 29 September, and back it up with the RedAss NSW/ACT Downhill State Championships on 6 + 7 October. With hosting Central Coast Ourimbah MTB club and custodians of the trails, more than 600 riders and spectators are expected.

The SHIMANO MTB Grand Prix is Rocky Trail’s popular four and seven hour endurance race series and round 4 will be held close to home for organisers Juliane and Martin Wisata, who have just moved in near Wyong.

“Thanks to the local club the trails at Ourimbah State Forest are in great shape and we put together an 8.5 km loop of the most popular trail sections with about 160 m of climbing.”, said organiser Martin Wisata.

Competitors can ride for four or seven hours, either solo or in teams of up to three riders. Online registration for participants will be open until Friday evening; entry for spectators is free. The event will be catered and a free kids race will be held around 11 am at the event centre at Ourimbah State Forest, Red Hill Forest Rd, Wyong Creek.

After the long weekend it’s straight back into it again for the organisers with the RedAss NSW/ACT Downhill Championships being held at the same venue the following Saturday and Sunday.

More than 200 riders are expected to compete for the prestigious title of State Champion in various categories ranging from Elite to age categories (U19, U17 and U15) as well as Expert, Sport and Master classes. The 2011 Elite Male State Champion, Rick Boyer from Newcastle, will be at Ourimbah defending his title against a high-profile field of elite racers including current state series leader and fellow racing team mate Graeme Mudd, local talents Jack Moir, Daniel Paine, Jarrad Connolly as well as Canberra's elite with Joe Vejvoda and Ben Cory.
