Am trying to learn how to fix my own bike. Have had some chain skip recently and snapped a chain. My new chain arrived today and I was advised to replace the cassette and chainring if needed.
Both are worn and need replacing. The cassette is no problem as I can order a XT one. I am not sure what front (middle) chainring to get. Checking phantomcycles lists a "deore" chainring which I think will be ok but I am not sure.

I am running shimano Hollowtech XTR crankset on a 2005 model bike.
