Melbourne - what's your scene?

Hi Everyone,

Could anyone provide some insight into the current XC (racing and group riding) scene in Melbourne?

I've just moved back to Melbourne for the first time since 2011, living in the eastern suburbs and wondering where everything is at regarding XC racing? I did some searching online, but can't find much activity on websites etc since about 2014....

What clubs are still active? Are dirt crits still a thing? Are there any regular XC racing series?

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

It's a little bit dead.

http://lysterfieldmtb.com/ had some Friday night racing but looks like it's finished up
http://gmbc.com.au/ still have Friday night racing going (Geelong are probably the most active)
http://fojcx.blogspot.com.au/ were running Thursday night CX/MTB racing (check facebook for event details)

Not really any other mid week racing.

https://www.entryzone.com.au/ is a good place to keep eyes on for random events such as the wombat classic and interwinter series (last years details http://www.rockyriders.com/interwinter)
http://www.vicenduroseries.com.au/ is the statewide 3 and 6 hour series

As for bunch rides. Mostly it's just shop rides. Commuter Cycles, Total Rush, The Ride Cycles head out to Yarra Trails on various nights. Bikes Direct goes to Lysterfield on a Wednesday night. The Fat Tyre Flyers Wednesday night ride from Ivanhoe is no longer running. I just ride with mates now.

Plenty Gorge

Hi Everyone,

The Plenty Gorge MTB club have weekly evening rides at Plenty Gorge. Also a monthly Sunday group ride. In the past I've been more of a solo get-away-from-humanity-for-a-while kind of rider but enjoying the fresh challenge of riding with others with different skill sets. Friendly bunch of folks and cater to most skill levels. You can follow their FB page for ride updates.
