so ive decided to put my brakes back on, and all the cables are all "linear" and i'm a little unsure what this means. any help?

it means that if u turn the bars completely around one full turn then your brakes will still work unlike normal cable which wont allow the brakes to work properly.

It means the outer casing is composed of linear wire strands just like gear cables are, which are more flexible than typical spiral wound brake outer casing as well as being stiffer under braking tension.

So they can hold up to being wound around and they give sharper braking response. Win Win.

Linear are actaully less flexible when trying to create tight bends as for front brakes. Linear are also lighter than traditional spiral wound brake outer casings. If you run front then you may need to use a traditional cable to obtain the correct bend.
Linear are also much harder to cut - usually requiring a hacksaw or grinder rather than side cutters.
