NSW Lets have a Hornsby Shire Pump Track

Well I think a pump track would be great.

I'm interested to hear from anybody who has good info relating to the design of a pump track. Especially if somebody in the area has a real passion for a pump track in particular or if there have been decent pump tracks previously built. Would be good to have a "Pump Person" in the ranks of HSMBA to champion/represent the interests of Pump.

I've attached some stuff I found on the net to get the ball rolling.

Looks like Lee's book is a 'must buy'?

Do you have any areas in mind Nmag ?

Spedding is already legal, but theres pretty much no decent jumps there so that area might be quite possible to build a pump track. Especially seeing you can avoid all the council legalisation crap.
I'd be willing to help, PM me.

The PDF is just some random thing off the net. We are currently working towards submitting a proposal to council for various MTB requirements.

See http://hsmba.info/ Register, and get your friends to

read the news page to see what has happened so far :)

By 'Spedding' do you mean Hopeville Park? Those little jumps are legal.

A pump track is so small you could fit it almost anywhere. Best near a jump park or something though. Somewhere prominent, not hidden in the jungle going unused.

Not sure what the name of the park is, but yeah its in the bush just next a park. Its a pretty open area, quite obvious, legal and not really used much. That why i though it would be a good area, probs even able to have some room left next to it for some decent jumps.

I (and others) have mentioned it before, but Cheltenham Oval (Tennis courts side) would be ideal. Its Flat, already has a roll in and is established as a local riding spot (pretty sure used to be council approved?).

+1

awesome spot for a pump track. Very little conservation purpose, small jumps have been sitting there for around 5 years. I couldnt think of a more perfect spot.

Hopeville park +1.

The layout at Hopeville Park would be perfect for a long pump track, figure eight with a few ins and outs, and it is already legal so all you would have to do is get the hands up to dig it.

PM me Nmag if this ever comes round to completion, I would be glad to lend a hand (live locally), always wanted to ride a good pump track.

yer, a pump track would be pretty cool.
do u guys know of any good tracks near north rocks in or around that bush like a that part which goes under the M2, because i live in that area and it would probably be a good way to get better at mtb'ing.

Yeah I know good trails near North Rocks, send me a PM and I'll get you some details.

There is the trail to Toongabbie, and Lake Parramatta.

Yes Hopeville looks like a good spot. I have met a mature MTB'er dude (and his wife) who live across the road from the His kids ride the tracks there, he was teaching his little son how to do go over a tabletop when i was there. I had a few cracks at it myself. Fun little jumps. I'll talk to him in person at the site and see what he thinks about a possible pump track.

k, so here:

Has a legal set of beginner jumps already, and some active locals.

and/or here:

Lyne Road I guess would have hire density to find people to design, build, maintain, and use. It's closer to the station and it's pretty close to LCNP which attracts riders already. Looks like it has more space.

We could ask about both i guess, any other locations? What exactly is Cheltenham Oval? Is that the park in Castle Howard Rd?:

yeh its hard to see but it is to the left of the netball courts in the picture you have. Lyne Rd would be great aswell and there is a lot more land there.

ok

Here is a snippet i quoted from Tim D http://www.farkin.net/forums/member.php?u=27340 in another thread:

"the rollers should be made around 40cm high with around 2.5-3m from the top of one to the next. Make the transitions really smooth so it looks somewhat like a sound wave from side on.. To finish it build a big long line of rollers and berms and bring it back around into a loop."
