I have been given a project for metal work to make something with metal and welders. Im working in a group of 3 and we chose to make one of those bike roller/ trainer things like this:

we thought we could use skateboard wheel bearings for the rollers and then just weld the frame together.
Just wondering if anyone has every tried to make a home-made one of these and whether it worked well. Or if you had any tips or things to beware of before starting.
Do you need a road bike for these or can you use a hardtail?
Do you have to have slick tyres?
EDIT: mmm well the thing turned out alright but it was to heavy to carry so we just ditched it in a park didnt get any pictures or anything though
Ill post up some pictures once we've finished (if we finish)
Thanks,
Matt
