Helmet cam footage - Best Video editing software?

So, to those in the know. I'm starting to use my Gopro HD cam and want to splice out the crap and add tunes.

Opinions on what is the best free video editing software and whats the best purchased software?

It's a bit more complicated than just saying "best free/best payed editing software", we need a bit more info. What do you want out of it? Do you want to be able to use it for other things, such as editing footage later on with a handycam?

Sure. I'll be using it in the majority to replay video captured from the helmet cam and to edit it. being chopping out crap, putting tunes behind it and probably downsampling too.

What's your price range?
You won't really be able to get anythign that will support a HD helmet cam or free, not even Windows Movie Maker supports HD.

Sony Vegas is a good place to start, or if you are into Adobe, Adobe Premier Elements set me back $300 and it is pretty proffesional and adequate for a high standard of editing.
