you need to remove all cables deurilluer, and throw them in the bin (cept the rear der). remove 2 chainrings, but you'll have to find bmx/ss/track chainring bolts, they are shorter.
remove cassette. scab spacers from 2-3 old cassettes.
shorten chain. hope to god if you have vert that luck is on your side.
if you own a frame with horizontal pat yourself on the back.
make sure chain line is even, chain is tight.

if you do all this, you might be ok.

maybe.

im running single speed and its heaps good, with my old bike there was all the hasle of the chain coming off after a jump or it sliping down a cog and stuff like that. if u hav vert drop outs u need a chain tentioner if not your all good, u need to basicly take off all the gear shit then all the other stuff has been said. im running 32/18 as my gear ratio, and its really good

Be careful wi the singulator's, i had one and it was an absolute bitch to get the thing maintaining any reasonable amount of tension...

ultimately, you need a bike with horizontal dropouts :D

fuck singulators, they suck u hit them once they develop side to side play and ull never retain ur chain,

get ur der, remove as many links as u can then run the der on it, zip tie the der to the frame, remove the limit screws and replace them with longer ones, and screw them in when u have the der adjusted it wont move, for a bit more adjustability, get the end of of a der cable or brake cable, cut it about 3 inches long and run it with the knob on the barrel adjuster side and tension the der on the right gear, so if u ever want to adjust it just play with the barrel adjuster.

Any stock freeride style bikes available in single speed? Would be nice to pick up something basic for urban riding without the price or complications of gears, deraileurs and all that p*ss.

aside from the fact that freeride bikes aren't designed for urban riding at all (seriously, who can go huge in a skatepark on a stinky or an atomik), i doubt you'd find a single speed freeride bike at all. sure, you can find plenty with a single ring up front, but i'd say all stock bikes would come with at least a rear casette.

what you could do is, when you buy a new bike, ask the store to make it single speed while they're building it.

Good call on the Rennen Socket. I ran a Rollenlager and it was a set and forget affair... the only reason i dont run it anymore is bacause my chain length runs perfect with my gearing.

it depends on wat you call "freeride" (i think it is a really bad word to use because to some people it means big hucks and northshore, but to others it means jumps, drops, urban)

you can get hardtail stock as single speeds eg avanti onedog, spesialized p1, norco jump bike but you can easily change any hardtail to single speed. not sure about duallies though. the chain tension would probably change as the rear wheel moves but not sure about it.

if you want it really easy for single speed go a 24 bike frame (pornking 3 or le toy 4)(i have a pornking 3) because of their adjustable chainstays. you just get the chain at the aproximate correct length and then just wack in the wheel, adjust the drop outs and your done. No tensioners and no hassels
or the other way is horizontal drop outs which have the same principle as the adjustable dropouts.
