Fitting a dropper

Hi all,

I have a 2015 Giant Trance 2. I want to fit a dropper post. What’s the best way to run the cable? At the moment all my cables are run internally. I’d like to do the same for the dropper.

Do I need to remove the BB to run the cable?
or is there an easier way to run the cable?What tool would I need? The specs for the bike just list the BB as a Shimano Pressfit.
Am I right in thinking a pressfit can’t be reused?

No, you were thinking that Pressfit shouldn't be used!
this seems to be the general opinion!

You will need to knock out one side of the bottom bracket at least, because it's a fairly sharp bend to get the outer around that corner. Sometimes you can be lucky & get away without smashing it to bits, so can reuse it, but bank on munting it, so have a spare on hand just in case.

I fitted a shimano press fit a few months back and had to knock it out again cos I made an error (or I thought I did, long story). Anyway, it came out fairly easily without any damage and I was able to reuse it. The key is to have the right tool. Is there an opening for an internal dropper cable?


Pressfit sucks and takes a beating to get out. Prepare to replace.

Fitted dropper to local lads 2015 trance. Was a real PITA. Around the linkage bolt and under the BB. Sucked worse being PF, would be easier with threaded.

did you take the bb out? Or did you manage to get the cable around the bb?

I got it round. No easy matter though.
