Hi all,

with an upcoming trip to japan about to happen
and since i plan to hit up a DH park over there which offers some pretty serious rides for hire

i thought it was about time to FINALLY get on a dual suspension bike
(this is after 10+ years of occassional DH on a hardtail )

what did i get?
something OLDschool, just like me

Frame - Giant ATX something (about 2000 model)
Rear shock - Too short (only 150mm i-i)
Front shock/fork - Sherman with some fancy SPV valving or something
Handlebars - titec hellbent
Stem - titec el norte
Headset - FSA
Grips - ODI lock-ons, but probably swap to Ourys that i have for nostalgia
Saddle - just bent my azonic one that i loved, now has a FUNN one
Seatpost - MOST EXPENSIVE part on the bike, also the lamest. no name piece of shite that i got from the local shop (not drift, that shops GREAT)
Front brake -none yet, but have a hayes 8inch ready to put on
Rear brake - hayes 8 inch
Cranks - old school FSA lumps of aluminium
Chainguide - top is the AC, the bottom something i have knocked up from some spare rollers i had laying around. aerial industries bashy
Chain - meh
Pedals - dice ones
Front derailleur - bwahahaha
Rear derailleur - deore
Front shifter - oh dear...
Rear shifter - deore
Cassette - some shimano one
Front hub - unsure, 20mm bolt-thru
Rear hub - shimano
Front rim - dice 24
Rear rim - ryno lite, flatspotted badly...
Spokes - yes, lots
Nipples - teehee
Tyres - cheetahs
Tubes - dh ones
Total weight - 20kegs

the geometry is pretty messed up though
from what i have read on here the rear shock should have an i-i of about 190mm?
mine has about 150mm

which means as i pedal out of corners i am clipping pedals all over the joint and doing my best superman impressions...

going to chuck on a fox vanilla RC that i have, but thinking about getting one of these off torpedo7

hope u like it :D

lol! Classic! With a new shock and a cooler seatpost :D I'm sure it'll be a bag of fun! I rode a few of those back in the day and they weren't too bad when well set up. Good luck with it - love the camo paint.

looks fine to me but i reckon the top bolt of the linkage will hit the the seat post area of the frame if compressed to much.

that wont be a problem

there isnt an actual bolt or anything that goes through there

but looking at pictures of other peoples ATXs there should be a whole heap more room in that area

peachy

Ripe 'n ready!
R.E.S.P.E.C.T!!!!

Thats awesome bro!! La la loving it. I rode an ATX dh not long ago and I absolutely loved it. Enjoy :)

My old frame looks awesome (This is the frame that I sold to fimp) looks really nice built man, better than it just sitting around at my place. Good Job.

I had a few of em back in the day also, and that's actually one of them;) I didn't do the paint, but I think it was done in proper army greens.
Get a big shock in it, it'll be so worth it, they're a great gun little bike, with some lighter kit, they'd make a great trail bike.

i finally managed to get around to doing the rear shock swap

before, some kmart mystery shock...

after some trickery and a lot of KY Jelly, the new (well, used...) 4-way!!!:D

off for a test run tomorrow arvo at killi
hopefully now i wont clip the pedals on every second corner and go flying ass-over-tit

went ok on the weekend

the geometry is MUCH better now
and if anything i think that the rear shock has turned out a bit too stiff, but that will probably be a good thing once my confidence increases again and i start pushing it :D

would really like to get a new seat-tube on it asap so i can lower the seat all the way
im a short-ass and i was having trouble getting off the back of the seat with it up so high

oh yeah, and front brakes hopefully getting on there tonight
would come in handy!

wouldnt mind some longer forks too, but that can all happen later ;)
