Hey folks,

I have a trance advanced SX with X01 and the giant wheel set that allegedly uses the DT Swiss star ratchet system.
Can i upgrade the pawls to the 36 pawls system?? Looks fairly straight forward assuming it will work on the hub i have.

Thanks for your help!

Check them first. A lot of the ones coming in bikes already have the 36 tooth cogs (my 2013 Specialized bike did, and the giant site indicates that your bikes wheelset might have them). If they don't have them yet, then yes you can update to the 36.

Note, if you get a "service kit" for these, it's usually only with the 24 tooth ones (along with the grease and replacement springs), and you end up having to get the 36 as an additional item (which only come by themselves with no springs or grease, though it was a while back I looked, so might have changed).

Also, if you haven't serviced them yet, be carefully on how much grease you use (if it's too much, the ratchets have a tendency to not engage fully as the grease is in the way, and then because it's a small surface area for all that force, they strip the teeth on the ratchet faces and the cogs then need to be replaced). check the DT site for service instructions for how much to use. That's the only downside I've ever heard of to the star ratchets.

Apart from the above, they're a great system, really like them more than normal pawls personally.

hmmmmm i have those wheels standard.... i have to assume that i have the 18 tooth rachet if the ones above have 18???
Surely they wouldnt spec the one on the bike differently??
That's the US site. If you look the same wheels up on the Aus one it says 36 tooth.

Like I said, pull it apart and check what's in there (shouldn't be that hard to do, most of them are tool free to do it).
