Following up from my post yesterday, I set out to make my own.

Originally with the plan of making one kind of like the Bionicon C Guide, it eventually evolved into me finding an old rear derailleur in my box of "crap". I scavenged one of the pulleys from it, and the bolt and nut associated with it (As far as I know, it was only a 7 speed derailleur). I also grabbed some garden hose (going back to my original design), a washer, and another piece from my box of crap (I think its a strap that went around the chainstay on one of the old bikes where you pedal backwards and the brake would engage). After greasing up the pulley, I cut some short pieces of gardening hose to put around the strap to keep the chain on, and then assembled it around the chain. Once I had worked out where I wanted it, I secured it with a few cable ties. I did find that due to the chain being tighter, I had to make a few adjustments to the limits, but that was easy.

Haven't taken it for a ride on a trail yet, but just from riding it around the backyard, it works great!
