Changing it up, moving to 1x11 SRAM XX1

I love the idea of XX1 but the next time a stick screws your rear derailleur up it will be a $300+ fix. not to mention a new cassette and chain when that wears out.

I'll wait for the XX1 equivalent to hit XT level before committing to that!

To be honest, I have 3x10 XT shadow + and in the last year of riding I have not had one dropped chain, heard the chain slap the chain stay or had any issues with the drive train. Yep, I'd love 1x at the front but I'm really not that desperate. For trail riding it just seems excessive.

Plenty of the testers (and yes sram has given it around - quite alot) have tried purposely to drop the chain and give the xx1 a hard time but im yet to see a succesful reviewer, infact all of them have been impressed that they couldnt drop the chain nor get it to slap.

I love the thought of XX1 but need some serious pay upgrades before I can get anywhere near it....

Also more in love with the thought that Shimano might take this lead (xx1) and when it gets to XT, I might just live out some sort of bike porn fantasy...

It's be a good deal if it was non wearable parts - dead dearileurs dont worry me so much, more the cassette and front ring - I already wear out a drive drain twice a year, the upkeep on $400 cassettes is extreme! - it doesnt feel quite so bad for a $60 cassette and $40 chain etc

had some pretty sucky luck on this one... been away for work for a couple of weeks, was hoping i'd get back back to xx1, alas, my LBS couldn't get a hold of a xx1 xd for the hope hubs...

so i must ask, is there anyone HERE that has got one? if so, how did they get it? also, i know it's on jensen USA, but they don't ship to australia?

does anyone know where i can get my hands on one?

i haven't got the bike back yet (pick it up tuesday) ...went with a shadow+ rear mech and if it's as good as it sounds... it's probably just going to delay my shift to xx1 :(

Spent the last 3 days on the bike, with a decent mix up of XC trail and a fair bit of pavement :( ...locking myself to my middle chainring.

so with my inability still, to run xx1 due to still not getting my hands on a freehub adapter, i'm toying with switching to 1x with my current gear... or, potentially... using an xx1 crankset and ring.

here in darwin i'm not really going to have many issues with running 1x10, so i guess i'm wondering what i should do about deleting that front mech and shifter from my bike. Do i keep my current cranks and find a suitable middle ring to run on there, with some sort of chain retention device? if so, what would i be looking for? i don't really want a bashring or anything on there if i can help it...

or, i've seen a few people fit up the new xx1 crank/chainring to shimano gear and say it works perfectly, even with a 10sp chain (no dropped chains) ...noting i have the shadow+ rear mech now, i suspect this setup would indeed work for me... and ultimately still give me that ridiculously priced upgrade path, when i want to use that new cluster for the wider gear range :)

I've bought stuff from Jenson USA and had it shipped here, or is it that particular brand they won't ship?

Its easy really.

Buy these, install them, take a few links from your chain, be happy.

My anthem with xx1 is for sale see my thread.

Would consider splitting the xx1 away from the bike :D

well aren't you a bad-bad man!

i would just jump straight at it... but i suspect my q-factor (wtf is that?) is wrong? bottom bracket?

i'm going to drink a couple of beers tonight and consider this :)

Probably not. I'm running 156Q there are 2 sizes anyway. Haven't found someone needing the wider size.

my q-factor (wtf is that?)
Q-factor is the lateral distance between your pedals. 2-piece crank systems do not allow you to adjust q-factor, as the BB spindle length is fixed and it's only the splay of the crank arms that changes anything between cranks. Old-style three-piece systems, especially square taper (anyone remember that?) could alter the q-factor by changing the BB to one with a different spindle length, within reason. Too short & your chainrings would bite the frame, too long & the front derailleur wouldn't reach the big ring!

I've been told my Yeti SB-66 (small frame) would require the 168 Q factor

I would love to convert to XX1 but need to wait for my bank balance to allow it :)

thanks for the explanation, greatly appreciated!

i suspect mine could be a wider BB too?

I'm actually worried that the e-thirteen XCX isn't going to work on my bike now... my frame says "BB90" on the side of it, and as i understand it, it's a press-fit BB? (i've been away from the sport for a far while... only back on the bike the last 12 months or so) ...from the scott-sports site, it says "Shimano SM-BB71-41A, shell 41x89.5mm" i haven't puled the crankset myself yet... was planning on doing this when the chainguide and ring turn up (obviously!) in addition, i suspect i'm going to need shorter chainring bolts...

...unless i just get myself some xx1 love. so confused!

only seat tube mounted xcx will work with pressfit BB (eg BB90)

son of a....!!!

i don't even know if a seatube mounted one would work with the spark frame design... the frame has some crazy bends in it down there to make room for the front mech...

got damnit! perhaps i'll be able to dodgy something up with this one i've ordered... using the mounting points for the front mech.... maybe?

...i'll try to get some photo's to demonstrate

If you can put a front mech on it chances are you can put an XCX guide. They make them to fit all derailleur mounts including direct mount.
