Chain dropping and a possible change to 1x9

Hey guys and girls of RB just chasing a few answers after a little let down today at my local DH track after a few chain drops which is a bit random but either way my questions are...
1. Why is it all of a sudden doing this
And 2. What's the go with changing it to 1x do I just whack a guide on there or is there more involved like chainrings, dérailleur some even cranks I've noticed it has quite a large gap between the big ring and BB
oh and BTW my set up is truvativ howitzer cranks with stock chainrings, blackspire stinger guide/tensioner and and XT front & rear mechs

does your chain have good tension -how far back is the rear derailleur when in highest & lowest gear?

a new narrow wide chain ring might help if you decide to go 1x, also think about a clutch-type rear derailleur to help hold the chain on
