Broken Garmin Explore back mount

3rd time broken Garmins .
Previously bought new /old backs from ebay .
Of course no one minds the bike female mount breaking cos they are easily replaced.
Current model must be too new for replacement stock.
Saw US site saying these are designed to fail and to try using a Dog Ears replacement which is machined aluminium and you just trim the old mount a bit.
Anyone done this ?
Of course we get reamed for this $48 + $18 delivery.

Yep, mate done this with the alu dog ears. Fekkin expensive

Are you able to screw the cheap old mount type over the top?

Touch wood I've never broken any but that's why I like the cheap 0-ring mounts on the mountain bikes, they tend to just spin when you crash.

A follow up .
I paid the price and the aluminium part seems OK.
Easy to attach using screws and superglue.
Claimed to be 8 x stronger than the original cheese.
Seems to work, they promise to replace it if it breaks.

Ebay now has a plastic replacement.
Had difficulty on a rocky uphill switchback the alloy one survived and broke the female bit like its spose to

Yep still going well , very sturdy and def worth the money considering how shit Garmin's plastic is.
Good niche market product.

The new 1040 has metal tabs. Not sure about the 840 and 540.
Maybe Garmin acknowledging it's a fragile design?
