"Bad news about Appin from WMBC...

Thank you for all of the messages regarding the Appin Track.

We have been using the track without formal permission from the owners, however Derek has been in contact with them on several occasions discussing the continued use of the track.

We presented a draft agreement to the Tharawal Land Council recently and were under the impression from the CEO that it would be approved. When the agreement was presented to the board it was decided that they would conduct an environmental assessment and advise us of the outcome regarding the use of the track. We have been asked to refrain from holding events until further notice.

We are confident that the council will view our activities as environmentally sustainable and that they approve our continued use.

Send messages of support to dekka56@optusnet.com.au"

Note that it says "events".....

That's the same thing that's up on the WMBC site at the moment. Did the rain from the weekend stretch that far south?

Was up there late last week - no signs to the contrary. They'll have a hard time keeping the 4x4ers and motos out either way.

Track usually holds up well after bad weather, but it was heavy going in some parts with a lot of standing water about.

Probably fairly obvious but going to mention it anyway, and hopefully not sound like a total douchebag :neglected:

Appin does fair well in the wet, relatively speaking. But there are a few sections that do not. With Appin currently out of play for club rides, its also out of play for maintenance so going out there and riding it means that it is going to be, and more importantly remain torn up by the wet weather riders. Just something to think about next time you are pedalling through the mud ;)

"We met with the tharawal Land council last week and they are going to let us continue riding and racing at Appin. there are a few legal issues to finalise but it's looking good. We have a better understanding of how the land council works and believe our riding will fit into thier plans. They have indicated that if this deal is successful they may have other areas we can use.
We have verbal permission to continue riding and so the next race will be as scheduled on the 8th July.
Unfortunately someone has sent them a pretty nasty email. this doesnt help and makes the writer look like an idiot. Hopefully they understand that this isn't reflective of the general MTB community. if anyone feels the need to contact the Land council please send constructive or supportive messages only, or send to Derek or myself.
Grant has prepared a great submission which will be handed to them next week.
The final outcome will hopefully allow us to continue riding and holding bigger and better events in the future"

Good news, great work from those involved, (well except for 1 clown).
