A bike mechanic you trust???

Credit where it's due. And no sponsor support.
Let's not hear about who you don't trust either.
Let's just support the good guys, cos they are few are far between!

I have had quite a few guys work on my bikes through the years, but the only one I trust to get it right first time is Andrew at Kaos Custom cycles in Melbourne.

I've never been there, but I have heard nothing but praise for the crew at VicMTB.

For myself, my mate Troy is a genius and he does all my work for the simple reward of my undying admiration. What a deal.

Paul Bryant - Astroboy Racer, in Collingwood, Melbourne. I have looked extensively in Melbourne and Sydney and this bloke can't be beaten. He is a specialist mechanic, not affiliated with any store or brand. http://www.astroboyracer.com/

I'll second that suggestion there. Paul has been great to me too. He has great attention to detail, and has built many wheels for me. All are still rolling true. Nice bloke too.

One more for Paul - Astroboy racer.
He does so much more than just fix bikes, I had some forks powdercoated, he did the lot, including putting stickers on them to make them look great. I'm just about to drop a bike into him & he is going to get the frame clearcoated for me. He fixes things that most mechanics would just replace.

Me. Pretty much do all my own stuff.
yeah, i trust me for everything but bleeding brakes and servicing forks. lbs can face my BBs if they're really ragged and they can put in nice headsets for me too (only the nice ones, i'll mount my own cheap ones). other than that, i'll do it myself.

Aaah booo. Doesn't count if you don't do that stuff.

I should add I worked as a mechanic for quite a while and was just being a twit making that post. We shouldn't turn this thread into a I do my own work -> I dont let those crap bike shops touch my bike -> bike shops are a rip off -> support your LBS -> etc...

Your argument is invalid becuase you can't spell insult and therefore have the intelligence of a 12 yo

your inability to pick up sarcasm alarms me.

mine is Jerry from Anaconda Townsville, I could do all the jobs but it would take me 3 hours instead of half an hour and still have more attention to detail!

I'll throw in a vote for the team at Fraser's Cycles @ Tarren Point, get the guys that ride themselves and you'll be well looked after.

Al and Rick at Ventoux Cycles in Coffs Harbour. If they can't maintain it or fix it.........it's rooted and they will get you a new one pronto!

Russell has done some great work on my various bikes at BikeNow over the years, and Murray has done some nice work, including lacing my Powertap hubs/wheel build since he's been there.

The other month I had a wheel in there which needed 16 new drive-side spokes after having a fight with a stick/dérailleur about 12 months ago. Yes, that's right - I was racing a rear wheel that had been munched by a dérailleur for 12mo without it blowing up That's been happy since, and there's currently a set of XTR hubs sitting waiting to be laced to some 717s which I'm sure will come back just as well built as the last ones.
