6 and 7 speed shifter/cassette compatibility

Hey all,

I've got a 6 spd cassette on a disc hub, and I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether it is compatible with a 7 speed shifter. Either that, or will a 7 speed cassette fit on the hub?

6 speed cassette? On a disc hub?

Or a disc hub with a 6 speed screw on freewheel?

5/6/7/8 speeds all use the same chain and can all use the same shifters (though of course some combos mean you will have more or less cogs than index points).

Yeah, it's off a cheap kmart bike... I can't afford a new rear wheel for my rail so I take what I can get atm. Cheers muchly for the prompt reply mate, much appreciated.
